Panther Press Volume 21
Excellence,Everywhere,Everyday
Greetings Panther Family!
We are one week away from a much needed Spring Break as the semester continues to amp up. Encourage your students to finish strong this week.
As we sail toward the end of the 3rd nine week marking period, I want to encourage all of our students to stay focused and motivated as they work to the best of their abilities in finishing this marking period strong. We are now embarking on testing season with the first round of EOC testing scheduled for early April, so it’s important that students are attending school daily.
As always, there is a lot going on in the world of extra curricular programs. Our soccer teams are finishing up their district seasons and the boys are closing in on a district championship. The track team has begun their meets and are running well as they prepare for the district meet in April. The golf and tennis teams have begun their spring season and look forward to their district competitions in April. Baseball and softball are in the middle of their tourney season. Our Band and Choir prepare their UIL material and get ready for some fantastic spring concerts. The One Act Play is preparing for their competition
I appreciate all your support and let’s continue working together to help our scholars plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win as they move through this school year!
Have a great week and GO PANTHERS!

Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA)
Two Duncanville High School students were selected to represent Texas in the Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) National Honor Choir from March 3-7 in Little Rock. The students auditioned in October when they recorded their individual auditions. The recordings were among thousands of entries. Only 400 singers from the seven-state region (Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missori, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas) earned positions in the four honor choirs. The students that participated include junior, Quinton Prater and senior, Nickolas Jones performed with the Mixed Honor Choir.
These students will participated in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the annual SWACDA Clinic/Convention. Their performances before thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close.
The American Choral Directors Association is a music education organization of over 25,000 members who conduct over one million singers in schools, churches, and communities around the nation. ACDA sponsors the Honor Choir audition process to promote students’ dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage ACDA member directors to support their students in this development.
VASE Competition
Last week we had 55 entries with 49 medals at VASE. There are 9-Art 1, 7-Art 2, 13-Art 3, 17-AP Art, 3-State medals. The State winners are Ariana Kimball (AP Art and 3x State Winner), Evan Fredrick (Art 2), Oscar Nieto (AP Art). STATE VASE will be April 24-25 in San Marcos at San Marcos High School. The students will attend 3 workshops throughout the day and their artwork will be judged again to hopefully earn a Bronze or Gold medal.

We live in a very fast paced world. Keeping up with the demands of life can sometimes cause us to get distracted. Being present with our children is vital to ensure that they grow up healthy and happy. For the fifth event in our Kindness Counts Series, we are pleased to welcome speakers from The Turn Around Agenda. Parents will learn practical ways in which they can be present for their children as well as ways that they can model compassion when disappointments arise. The session will be held Monday, March 9th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Duncanville High School in the East Seminar Room. Spanish interpretation will be available. Junior Class Ring Cermony
Junior Ring Information
Thank you to all who have purchased their class ring up to this point.
It is important to note: Although you may purchase your ring at ANY time, in order to guarantee you will RECEIVE your ring at the ring ceremony, it MUST be ordered with $100 deposit by Friday, March 13th. Those who pay the balance in full before the ceremony will have their ring in hand that evening.
If you purchase your ring after this date, or plan to pay in full after the ceremony passes, you will NOT have your ring at the ceremony; however, proof of purchase allows you attend and participate.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12th, students in our Junior Class met with Balfour and were given a magazine of class ring options. This is a very exciting time for them as they begin to see their high school career inching closer to the finale year. We are so proud of the Class of 2021! Here are a few key things you may need to know.
- Balfour accepts cash, check (made to Balfour), and credit/debit card.
- An initial deposit of $100 is due when the order is placed.
- Students may place the order with Balfour in person on Wednesday, 2/19 or Thursday, 2/20 during all lunches.
- Students may order online at: dallasbalfour.com
- There are a number of payment options available, after the initial mandatory $100 deposit
The wonderful options that will allow your student to remember their high school years and commemorate the impending Senior year are something to be CELEBRATED!
We are excited to announce, for the first time ever, we will be holding a RING CEREMONY in May to do just that. This will be a family event where your student is recognized and applauded for not only making it to their Senior year, but also planning to be a successful leader of the class as we move forward with our eyes on May of 2021. We will communicate a date and time soon, but want you to know in order to have the ring present at the ceremony, orders must be purchased by March 13, 2020. Any student who completes the initial deposit before the Ring Ceremony in May is eligible to participate in the event. Please refer all questions to Mrs. Shaunna Kile, Junior Class Sponsor, at skile@duncanvilleisd.org.

SENIOR ACTIVITIES
Course Selection Verification
Dear Student and Parent/Guardian:
Good News! DHS Counselors have completed approximately 3,000 course selection meetings with current students. They have consulted with each student regarding the courses they have requested for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition, they have met with over 1,000 8th graders to discuss and complete their high school graduation plan. These requests and plans will available for you to review and confirm in Skyward under the Family Access login beginning March 14-22, 2020
STEPS TO CONFIRM THE SELECTION OF COURSES REQUESTED BY YOUR STUDENT:
Please review the course requests carefully by following the steps below:
1. Log into the Family Access account in Skyward
2. Click on “Schedule” on the left navigation
3. Click on “Request courses for 2020-2021 School Year” link located in the Course Request
section at the top right-hand side of the current schedule/schedule page.
4. This will display the list of courses requested.
*NOTE: Students may follow the same process under Student Access.
If you see a discrepancy, please complete the “COURSE REQUEST DISCREPANCY/CORRECTION” form attached to this letter (also available in the DHS Counseling Office) and turn it in to your campus counselor by March 27, 2020. March 27th is the FINAL DEADLINE for corrections to be made! This deadline is very important because it “drives” our campus course offerings and helps make certain we have enough courses to meet the entire student-body demand.
Also, please know that this is not an official class schedule; it is simply a confirmation of the courses requested. Students will receive a copy of their official class schedule at the high school’s registration/schedule pick-up before school begins in the fall.
ONCE AGAIN: ALL COURSE REQUEST CORRECTIONS MUST BE MADE IN WRITING ON THE ATTACHED FORM AND RECEIVED BY MAY 27, 2020. CORRECTIONS OR CHANGES WILL NOT BE MADE AFTER THIS DEADLINE.
CORDIALLY,
THE DHS Counseling Dept.
