Eastlake Middle School 1.16.19

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:

Welcome back to the second semester. It's hard to believe that we are half way through this school year. Thank you for being involved and supportive. The second semester tends to fly by, so stay connected and let us know how we can serve you. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns and/or comments about the following items:

A. January 16th -- First Day of Second Semester. Students will report directly to their first period class. We will be on a regular A block schedule day. Student will receive their locator cards during this class. There should be minimal movement. Students should only come to the counseling office if they have been placed in the wrong level or elective class. Please note that it is possible for your student to have a new teacher for a certain class depending on master schedule changes. We try to avoid these type of changes if possible, but please be flexible with us.

B. Eastlake Education Foundation - Taste of Eastlake. Every year, the EEF supports ELM with a gracious donation to help fund technology and other initiatives. We need your support in the several fundraisers that they put together. The Taste of Eastlake if a fun social event that we hope you will attend. The EEF is asking that we sell 30 tickets to this event in addition to seeking community sponsors ($500) and donors ($150 gift basket). We hope you will look at the information below and consider buying a ticket, donating and/or requesting support from your place of work. Please click on this LINK to purchase tickets.

C.New Staff Members. Please welcome Karina Campos to our school as our new Principal's Administrative Assistant. She is going to be a great addition to our school. In addition, we have Scotty Ruiz taking on the role of Plant Operation Supervisor. Mr. Ruiz has been with us for 15 years as the lead custodian. Don Owen and Diana Hurst will be missed!

D. Library and Tutoring. We are going to continue keeping our library open Monday through Thursday from 3:20 to 4:20. Tutoring will be provided on Wednesday and Thursday by our ELH tutoring program.

E. Lots Going On! Please see the calendar below for all of the great activities happening at our school site.

F. Coffee with the Principal and PTSO. I hope to see many of you at 8:30 AM in the library on January 22nd. There is also a PTSO meeting starting at 6:00 PM in the library.

G. Recognition. If you have a moment, please recognize our awesome teachers with the link below.

H. Military Grant. After Coffee with the Principal (approximately 9:00), we will discuss the Military Grant that we received. It is an awesome opportunity for our students of military families.

I. Student Concern? If you feel that your student might be a victim of bullying or your student knows of another student being bullied, please use this LINK to report your concerns and we will follow up.

We are lucky to have amazing parents and guardians at ELM. Keep shining and let us know what we can do to support your student.

How Can We Serve You Better?

Do you have concerns that you would like to share with the administration team? Please let us know.

Triton Trait of the Month (Curosity)

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”

—Albert Einstein

Why does curiosity matter? From Character Lab

When you’re curious about something, you process it deeply, rather than superficially. You also voluntarily spend more time learning about things that spark your curiosity. As a result, you more readily remember what you learn. In general, people who are more curious are happier and better liked.

In the weeks to come, teachers will nominate students for Triton of the Week who exemplify these traits of Curiosity.
