Washington Elementary (2/3/23)
A Message From Principal Williams
February 3, 2023
Dear Washington Families,
As January wraps up and we look into February, we are celebrating the learning and incredible progress students are demonstrating. Ask your student about the reading and math goals they have set and how much growth they have made. The growth is incredible!
In February, our students learning English as a second language will be completing the WIDA assessment here at school. Our kindergarten students will take the test February 17th and our 1st-5th grade students will test the week of February 6-10th. If your student is testing, please help set them up for success by getting a good night's sleep and arriving at school on time.
Finally, I would like to invite you to our Family Literacy Night on Wednesday, February 15th from 5:30-6:30pm. We will have lots of learning activities for students to share with their families as well as celebrity guest readers and popcorn! We hope you can come and join in on the fun!
Sincerely,
Gelinda Williams
Principal

Update from the Health Room
Washington Families,
This is a reminder that students should not be bringing medications from home and taking them on their own at school. This includes ALL over the counter medicine like cough drops, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, allergy medicines, and prescribed medications like inhalers etc. If your student needs to take medication during the school day, you will need to come to school and give it to them or fill out the proper paperwork with a doctor. The Authorization of Medication at School form is available at the school's office and on the Auburn School District Website. Any questions or concerns let the healthroom know!
Thank you,
Kandice Llera

National Champion Explorer
One of our awesome 3rd graders, Mason Maughan, just won his second youth wrestling National Championship (8U 43lbs). Over the weekend, he won the Tulsa Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He will compete for the Reno World Championships in March. If he wins, he will win the Trinity Award, the most prestigious youth wrestling honor. He is also the current Washington State Champion.
Congratulations Mason!
Highly Capable Programs
Referrals open January 9 through February 17, 2023, for Highly Capable Programs
Screening considers nominees who are currently enrolled in grades Kindergarten through eleven. Selection for highly capable programs reflects state guidelines for identifying intellectually gifted students. If you feel your child should participate in further testing, but doesn’t meet screening criteria, you may nominate your child. Nomination forms are school counseling offices and are available online by selection the For Families menu, Highly Capable, and then Highly Capable Forms.
