A Reading From The Gospel for Sunday, November 3, 2019
A man was there named Zacchaeus (zuh-KEE-uhs); he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not. So he rand ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him.
When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today."
All who saw it began to grumble and said, "He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner."
Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much."
Then Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house."
The Gospel of the Lord.

Dear Parents,
Well done OLPH Family!

Halloween Fun!!!
Linking Generations ~ Cloverbar ~ First Visit
Students from École Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School and Seniors from Summerwood Village Retirement Residence created Scary Wooden Spoons for Halloween.
Did you know that the word “Halloween” comes from “All Hallows’ Eve” and means “hallowed evening.” Hundreds of years ago, people dressed up as saints and went door to door, which is the origin of Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating

Dear Parents,
``A personally owned device must meet the educational needs of the school and district. The ability for a student to use any form of technology within school is a privilege. If the student doesn’t follow the guidelines the student may lose the privilege of using the device and network access may be suspended.``
" The student must comply with a staff request to shutdown the device or put the screen to sleep"
" Violation of any EICS School Board policies, Administrative Procedures, Responsible Use Agreement, this user agreement or school rules involving a student’s personally owned device may result in the loss of use of the device in school and/or disciplinary action"
During instructional time, students have the privilege to use their devices, but if they are playing games, etc, they are guilty of not following the contract they have signed.
As parents, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mme Moniz at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca or 780-467-5631.

Local Fundraiser ~ A Former EICS Student!!
Dear OLPH families,
I understand that fundraisers are a plenty but I wanted to share a special one that is unique to our community of EICS.
A former EICS student, George Miok, was a soldier who gave his life for our freedoms and privileges of being a Canadian.
Please take the time on Remembrance Day to think about the sacrifices that many brave women and men have made so that we may all enjoy the freedoms that we have.
Every dollar raised from this Jacek Sgt. George Miok Chocolate collection will be reinvested in the children in the community to ensure that the sacrifice of a great man, who gave his life for the belief of those freedoms, shall never be forgotten.

Thank you for your support for this special cause.
Lest we forget.

Insight Testing
Insight is a group-administered test of cognitive abilities, which will be administered to all grade 5 and 8 classes in the first week of November. The assessment is designed to measure cognitive abilities including reasoning, comprehension, memory, and visual/auditory processing.
Students do not need to study for this type of assessment, and the results are not used to evaluate their school achievement. The results provide information to help teachers recognize student strengths and plan for additional supports as needed.
If you would like to learn more about this assessment tool, please visit http://www.canadiantestcentre.com and select the Insight tab near the top of the page. While there you may also want to look into the CAT-4 academic assessment tool, which will be used to measure overall academic ability of Grade 4 and 7 students in the spring.

Lunch Hour Changes!
In order to allow more space on fields and to proactively prevent negative student altercations, we are going to try a new system.
For grade 7 & 8, nothing changes. The students will eat first and then go outside for recess.
However, for the students in grades 5 & 6, the lunch schedule will be flipped. The students will immediately go go outside to play at 12:04 p.m. and come inside to eat their lunch at 12:25 p.m.
Hopefully this will lead a more pleasant outdoor experience for all.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact M. Morin at alyrem@eics.ab.ca

School Fees & Fee Waiver Program
Please be advised that school fees have been posted on your child’s PowerSchool account.
Once fees are posted, you will be able to make payments on-line or by cheque at the school office. All cheques must be made payable to EICS. We would, however, like to encourage you to pay your school fees on-line.
In addition, you may divide your payments either on-line or by postdated cheques.
If you require any assistance with these fees, the Division offers a "Fee Waiver Program". More information can be found at

End of Day Procedures
Please make sure that you child(ren) know if they are to take the bus or if they are getting picked up at the end of the day.
Should a student need to confirm their end of day plans, we ask that all students make their arrangements during the morning recess (10:19 a.m. - 10:34 a.m.) or during the lunch hour (12:04 p.m. - 12:47 p.m.).
This will reduce the confusion and rush at the end of the day and will also ensure that your child(ren) does not miss the bus.
If a student comes to the office at the end of the day and are unsure how they are getting home, we will be sending them home on the bus.
