AHOY, PIRATES!
As for the gentleman in the picture....well- that's Coach Massie. I'll save that one for another day. For now, let's just say he taught me to stand and deliver! Right, Mrs. Dodd?!
With that, I submit the Captain’s Log. #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot #finishstrong #22days cje

State Error...Miscalculated Pay Raise
I am sure you have been following this in the news. MDE is now working with schools and the legislature to correct the issue. Mrs. Bromen is making plans to address the issue until the Legislature corrects the error. Contract addendums were issued Friday. Please sign and return them to your administrator. This raise coupled with the additional $750 makes our teachers the highest paid teachers on the MS Gulf Coast. Our board and administration wanted to make this investment in those closest to the students. Last year, school-based classified staff received step increases as well. These gestures, along with a Pirate Perks program and supplemental salary scale, are our fiscal components to our recruitment and retention program. Thank you for all you do to invest in our children.
From the Desk of Kelly Riley: "As I'm sure you've seen in media reports this week, MDE miscalculated the amount of the teacher pay raise, which resulted in the legislature not appropriating enough funds to cover the cost of the pay raise for all teachers and assistant teachers. It is estimated that an additional $12-$15 million will be necessary to cover the total cost of the raise. All teachers and assistants will receive the raise, but districts will have to cover the unfunded portion until corrective action is taken. MDE did not capture all eligible teachers when it calculated the cost of the pay raise and did not provide data to districts for purposes of verification before providing the estimate to the legislature. MDE is in the process of identifying those teachers and assistant teachers who were not included in the original calculation. I will keep you updated as to developments."
Exit Interviews: Those exiting the Pirate Ship who would like to have an exit interview, please call Mrs. Curry at extension 121 to schedule a time to discuss your Pirate experience.
Summer Learning Opportunity:
i-Ready User Summit: Q: How do I learn more about my resources to help me become more comfortable with them? A: Attend professional learning opportunities and network with other teachers who use the resources.
CA says this is a way to "gather with colleagues and experts to enhance your understanding of i-Ready’s Diagnostic and Instruction tools. This summit will provide opportunities to learn from peers and gain new strategies to maximize instruction and support student growth." If you are interested in participating in the user conference, please see your principal prior to registering. Last year's attendees enjoyed the time with their peers.
Upon approval, click here to register. The sessions fill up quickly. Cost: $150
