Sigma Alpha Iota - Beta Gamma

Bradley University | Peoria, IL | Upsilon A

Happy Holidays from Beta Gamma!

Just like that, the the fall semester is over and the holidays are here! This time of year is busy, exciting, nostalgic, sweet, magical...the list goes on....but for many of us, this month is musical. We are all so fortunate to have the incredible opportunity to perform together throughout the holiday season. On behalf of the Beta Gamma chapter of SAI, we hope you have a wonderful holiday!

The following pictures are from our holiday party - we took a (quick) study break from finals to exchange mugs, drink tea and hot coco, and play games!

Concerts, Concerts, and More Concerts!

SAI members were involved in several concerts the second half of fall semester. We want to congratulate Dr. Vroman, Dr. Semanik, Dr. Kelly, Dr. Walters, and Dr. Jost on their ensembles' capstone performances. We would also like to congratulate Dr. Choi, Marcia, Mr. Zimmerman, Peggy, and Mr. Hull on their studios' recitals, Lisette on the Collegium Musicum's performance, and Dr. Orfe and Dr. Heinemann on another great Peoria Lunaire concert. We appreciate the work that you do to make these performances a success.

Philanthropic Focus: Music Therapy

This year, Beta Gamma wanted to focus our philanthropic efforts to music therapy. As a national organization, SAI has been supporting music therapy since the time following World War II, when the Music Therapy Project was started. Beta Gamma performed at three nursing homes this fall: Snyder Village in Metamora, Il; Supportive Living of Washington in Washington, Il; and Buehler Homes in Peoria, Il. We have a few exciting projects planned for next semester, including more performances of this nature.

Fall Fundraisers

SAI paired up with Phi Mu Alpha for the last two fundraisers of the semester. On October 14th, we held an enormously successful Krispy Kreme fundraiser (our favorite fundraiser). With tables set up outside of Constance Hall, Bradley Hall, and inside the Student Center, we sold every box of doughnuts we ordered.

On November 11th, members of SAI and PMA headed to Chipotle with friends and family in tow. We received 50% of the proceeds from what was sold between 4 and 8pm. It was an easy and filling way to raise money.

A big thank you goes to Haley Woods, treasurer, for organizing these fundraisers!

Incorporation Day Ceremony and Scholarship Auditions

Every fall, the Peoria area alumnae chapter of SAI comes to Bradley's campus so that we can perform the Incorporation Day ceremony to honor Sigma Alpha Iota's founders. After that, they hold a scholarship competition for us. This year, the recipient of the Denelia Janssen Award was Molly Wilson for her performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op 64, III: Allegretto non troppo - Allegro molto vivace. This is the top award given by the alumnae chapter and it is in honor of Danelia Janssen, one of the key founding members of Beta Gamma from 1948. Alencia Norris won the Memorial Award for her performance of the Habanera from Carmen. The Memorial Award is given in honor of the SAI women that have passed away. Congratulations to these fantastic musicians, who both performed from memory, and thank you to the alumnae chapter for holding this event every year!

Sister Takeovers

Jamie Tollefson, our VP, Membership, and social media chair, has coordinated "sister takeovers" of our Instagram account, @saibetagamma. For one week, one of our members gets to take over the account and post their own updates. It has been a great way to learn a little bit more about each other and have some fun with our social media outlet! So far, Natasha Alley and Cailey Platt have "taken over" the account. Check out our page to see who's next!

Senior Recitals

Seniors Natasha Alley, viola, and Clara Capriotti, flute, presented their senior recitals in November. They will both be student teaching next spring. Natasha will be teaching in the Dunlap school district and Clara will be at Metamora Township High School and Germantown Hills Middle School. Congratulations on your lovely performances!

Patroness and Faculty Advisor Molly Sloter played "Go Cubs Go" on Bradley Hall's carillon after the Cubs won the world series. Check out the video below!

Clara Capriotti can also be spotted eating a salad at 0:55. :-)
