Since last weekβs newsletter, I have received notice of a couple of other potentially catchy things going around the school. In addition to Flu B, we also have students that have had Influenza type A; Hand, Foot & Mouth disease; Pediculus humanus capitis (ie head lice); and a non-specific βstomach bug.β
Another thing that is not contagious but we have noticed recently is an increase in mental health issues - both cognitive and emotional. This is true for both kids and adults and includes such things as forgetfulness, poor concentration, irritability, anxiety, resurfaced grief, sadness and depression.
While this is to be expected this time of year with the busyness of the holidays and the occasional winter doldrums, it should also be a reminder to put extra effort into taking care of your mental health. Also, remember to be patient with the little ones, because even good stress (like waiting for Santa) can get overwhelming and affect us in negative ways. Above all, make time to stop and let yourself relax (even if just briefly), and reflect on the reason for the season.
