GCPS' Immunizations
We are reaching out with an IMPORTANT reminder about immunizations for the upcoming school year.
North Carolina law requires all children in the state to receive certain immunizations. Records are checked when children enter school
Kindergarten:
State law requires that every child entering kindergarten in an N.C. public school receive a health assessment. The assessment must occur within 12 months prior to entering school. The medical provider, parent or guardian must provide a completed health assessment transmittal form to the principal of the school on or before the child's first day of attendance. Kindergarten students are also required to have completed immunization. Please provide a copy of their completed immunizations before or on the first day of school.
7th Graders:
Adolescents should be up to date on all the vaccines required for kindergarten entry. In addition, adolescents rising to the 7th grade need one dose of Tdap vaccine and one dose of meningoccal conjugate vaccine.
12th Graders:
All Rising 12th graders should be up to date on all of their vaccines and receive their second dose of the Meningococcal Vaccine in order to graduate from high school.
COVID Vaccines:
Finally, please know that while optional, COVID vaccinations are available for children 12 years and older.
Thank you in advance for taking care of these important health care issues.
COVID Updates From Our District's Lead School Nurse Ms. Leslie Parrott
With the school year starting it is important to remember that COVID is still there and very contagious. Please practice your 3 W’s (wash your hands, wear your mask, and wait 6 feet apart). When we practice these 3 W’s we help in the fight with COVID. Your mask should be worn over your nose and mouth. You are role models for our students!
Now there is another great way to protect yourself - by getting the COVID vaccine. There are 3 different COVID vaccines available to take. Studies have shown that vaccines are safe and effective. Please view the link for more information. https://gvph.org/covidvaccines/ Our Granville Vance Health Department is ready to give COVID vaccines every day, Monday through Friday. Please call 919-693-2141 to schedule your vaccine appointment. You can also speak to your doctor about the vaccine. Your school nurses are here to assist you if you have any questions about COVID guidelines. If you are fully vaccinated (2 weeks after your 2nd vaccine of Moderna or Pfizer or 2 weeks after J & J’s vaccine) you will not have to quarantine if you are exposed to a positive person as long as you are symptom free. Stay safe and healthy!
