Social and emotional learning (SEL) aims to help students better understand their thoughts and emotions, to become more self-aware, and to develop more empathy for others within their community and the world around them. Central Road's two wonderful school social workers will be pushing into each classroom this school year. We are excited to offer this opporunity to our students. Over the course of this year, they will proactively teach and model various SEL skills. These lessons will last for 30 minutes, one time a week. They will take place for up to 6 weeks. 1st and 6th grade lessons began last week. Once concluded, our social workers will rotate onto kindergarten and 5th grade. Lastly 4th, 3rd and 2nd graders will participate in this learning too. Topics, such as the following, will be covered in each of our classrooms over the course of the 22-23 school year.

The Department of Teaching and Learning will be hosting the first Parent University on September 29th! Please join us virtually for our first event of the year through Facebook Live.

Parent University is a series of virtual and live events for families and guardians of D15 students. Topics will vary throughout the year and aim to share important curriculum updates and discuss how to support your child’s learning at home.

Our Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for October 19th. If you missed our original date or would like to re-take a photo, please feel free to do so on October 19th. Pictures from August 31st will be coming in the next 3-4 weeks for parent review.

Join the one-five Foundation for its first ever Family Fun Run/Walk on October 15 at Winston Campus Junior High! The event begins at 9:15 am on 10/15. Registration is $15 a person or $60 for a family.

All proceeds from this event will support initiatives of the one-five Foundation that serve the students, staff and community of CCSD15. Visit one-five.org to learn more.

The District 15 Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to place a bond referendum on the November 8, 2022 ballot. Doing so will allow the District to repair and restore our facilities, bring full-day kindergarten to all elementary schools, update schools libraries and some learning spaces, and ensure feeder patterns from elementary to junior high and high school providing all student access to a neighborhood or near neighborhood school. • October 25 - Walter R. Sundling Junior High
