AP Test Information 2017
1. AP testing is May 1st – 12th. Times: 7:45am and 12:00pm. Students riding the bus need to make alternate arrangements for transportation on their testing days.
2. We will post a list in all AP teacher classrooms for students to check their order. Any changes or additions can be made on March 2nd. Please make sure your order is correct. Financial aid is available. Contact Mrs. Henry to see if you qualify. Taking multiple tests is not a reason for financial aid.
3. The College Board charges fees for returned exams and any orders placed after the deadline will cost more…the closer to the test date, the more the added fee will be.
4. In order to use accommodations on your exam, students must request and receive approval from the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities. See Mrs. Farris, GHS Counselor to apply for accommodations. The College Board deadline for application is February 17th. You must be on the College Board’s Special Accommodations list to receive accommodations regardless of whether you have 504 or SpEd accommodations.
5. Late/alternate testing is available only under a few specific circumstances, such as school sponsored event, religious holiday, and doctor documented illness. Alternate tests are given on specific dates and times just like the regular AP test. If you have a conflict with a test, see Mrs. Henry as soon as you know of the conflict so we can get an alternative test ordered for you. If something happens during testing see or email Mrs. Henry immediately to make alternate plans. Alternate test dates are the week following regularly scheduled AP exams. Depending upon the reason for missing the test, some fees may apply.
6. We will have a pre-coding session at the end of April where Mrs. Henry will give you specific details about the testing – where to go, what to bring, etc., and you will fill out a bubble sheet and candidate pack. If you miss this meeting you will need to go by and see Mrs. Lynch in the front office prior to your first test.
7. If you do not take the AP exam, you are required to take a district exam, which will count as your semester exam grade. If you had Government 1st semester, we will go back and change your grade to reflect the district exam. This testing will take place on a different day and time from the AP exam. Mrs. Henry will let you know that schedule in May. This test is an actual AP exam with multiple choice and free response with the same time length as the regular AP exam.
8. Any questions, concerns, or requests need to be directed to Catherine Henry, Assistant Principal. The best way to reach her is via email: catherine.henry@gcisd.net.

GCISD ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO TRANSFER PROCESS
On Monday, January 23, Trustees approved changes to local board policies that impact the GCISD student transfer process for residents and nonresidents. In previous years, families interested in applying for a transfer were admitted based on the order in which the application was received and if they met specific board criteria for the transfer.
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, families that reside within GCISD boundaries or live in the cities of Colleyville and Grapevine but are zoned for another school district, may apply for the transfer lottery.
"By moving to a lottery system, we are making the process more equitable for families that wish to have their student transfer to another campus," said Deputy Superintendent Dr. Rick Westfall. "Our goal with this adjustment to the transfer process is to create a system that simplifies the process for our families and removes the ambiguity from the transfer process."
From March 20 - April 21, families may submit their transfer application for the lottery. While the district will accept all transfer applications, students will only be granted transfers to campuses and grade-levels that can accept more students without going over capacity. Decisions about capacity will be made later in the semester and throughout summer depending on student registration and enrollment projections. In order to apply for the lottery, the student requesting the transfer must meet the following criteria:
- 90% rule regarding attendance
- Behavior deemed to be in good standing
- Grades in good standing
- Transfer request not for athletic purposes
During the week of April 24, GCISD will livestream the lottery on the district website. There will be a delay in an official notification, but families can check their lottery number to see if it was pulled for a more efficient notification. Once a specific date and time for the lottery has been determined, that information will be shared on the district website and in the district's e-newsletter, The LEADer. It is important to note this lottery is separate from the special programs lottery for one of the district's special programs located at a designated campus.
Another benefit to the newly revised policies is that nonresident transfers no longer have to reapply every school year. Instead, both residents and nonresidents will only need to reapply when they are changing a level (i.e. from elementary to middle school or middle school to high school).
For more information about the GCISD transfer lottery, please visit the district website.
