Parent Audience Needed!
Hey, Smith families!
For our current Unit of Study, 5th grade is staging a great debate over whether or not our school should continue to serve chocolate milk. As far as our students know, Mrs. Young has received some concerns about the nutrition content of chocolate milk and has brought the controversy to our 5th grade writers. They have been working hard on an opinion piece supporting their argument (for/against) and are gearing up to briefly debate the issue next Monday (February 3rd) from 8:10-8:30 am.
We have divided kids into groups, and we need volunteers to hear them debate! If you are available and willing to sit on our parent panel, we only ask a few things...
- Please sign in at the front office by 8:10 am and go to the cafeteria, where chairs will be set up
- Listen to our debaters - you will be seeing some great arguments and rebuttals!
- Send them back to their fifth grade teacher at 8:30
Please note that if you volunteer, you might not necessarily see your own child's debate. However, you will be a part of a powerful writing experience for our kiddos!
If you would be interested in watching our debate, please click the link below to sign-up.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Smencil Sales
Our fabulous room parents are needing your help! Volunteers are needed to sell Smencils (scented pencils) during all lunch periods, between February 7-February 13.
Smencils are being sold to help cover the cost of the special End-of-Year party for our fifth graders. It will be a day full of fun at Strikz.

- Students are allowed to bring items such as Rubik's cubes to brain break and recess. Please remind your child that it is their responsibility to keep track of their items and that they bring them at their own risk.
2019-2020 Class Parties Payment
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The PTA helps with the class parties by collecting money, organizing the room parents and handling all reimbursements.
This year, we are asking to please send in your onetime class party donation of $12.00 cash or check (payable to Smith PTA) to cover all three class parties for the year. These include the Winter Ball, Valentine’s Day Party, & the End of the Year Party. You can also pay online https://www.smithpta.net/shop
Please disregard this reminder if you have already paid. If you haven’t, please pay as soon as possible as it helps the Room Parents to plan out the three parties for our kids.
If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Katie Augustine, PTA Treasurer: email katieaugustine14@gmail.com
Sincerely,
PTA and Room Representatives
