Nuts & Bolts
March 18, 2019
Literacy week was beautiful. We had several tours this week and all of those potential parents were super impressed. Thank you to the Literacy committee (Ms. Holly, Ms. Karen, Ms. Kari, Ms. Kirsten, and Ms. Krista) for your hard work and planning.
Thank you JH teachers for planning and hosting an intercession full of wonderful learning experiences for our children. I appreciated that each teacher or group/pair teacher team designed the specifics for each day's plans. I think our students appreciated last week. Special thanks to those JH teachers who taught all day, spent the night in the gym with about 90 of our favorite children, and then taught the next day with no shower - Ms. Leigh, Mr. Richard, Mr. Adrian, Ms. Kat, and Ms. Andria.
Thank you Autumn, Amanda, Megan, and Avonlee for supporting the children, families, and staff of MMA with the endless behind the scenes work you do that makes our school function. Thank you for your grace under pressure and constant handling of bodily fluids. Thank you for supporting me.
Thank you Lana, Dana, Nicoletta, and Andrea for caring for all of the students and staff at MMA, for your positive, growth mindset, and problem-solving abilities. Thank you for your collaboration and work in making Montessori's vision a reality today.
Thank you Nicoletta and Dana for taking a public risk with me to lip synch in front of a crowd of junior high students and staff. And for the killer outfits.
Thank you, Lana, who gave up a week with her family to do Mandt training all last week and then got to spend most of Saturday with me at the Charter School Fair. Both of these events will benefit MMA greatly and I appreciate Lana's love and dedication to MMA.
Thank you assistants, for your support of teachers, students, and families of MMA. Your love of children and hard work is visible and much appreciated.
Thank you teachers, for your engagement at Friday's professional learning session. I appreciate your positivity, honesty, and willingness to share your opinions. We get such a better product and result when everyone is a meaningful part of the design process. Thanks for reading through my moment of gratitude. Click here to express who supports you and to be recognized for actually reading N&B. I am excited and happy to see where our discussions and work on the curriculum takes us on Monday and into this summer and next school year.
I hope St. Patricks' Day brought you luck and love. Please know how much I love and appreciate each of you. Have a fantastic week!
Time Off Request Reminders from Lana
I'm reaching out as I have had some questions regarding time off requests. As a reminder, please make sure you are putting time off requests in my mailbox with at least 48hr notice and a secured sub. Your time off request will be in "pending" until a sub is secured. If you are a classroom assistant, no sub is needed. If you are a special education assistant, please secure a sub for your absence.
For lead teachers, specialists, and case manages, in an email, prior to the day you'll be out, you'll need to include who will be subbing for you along with your lesson plan for the day. Sub lesson plans must be sent in to myself, René, the office, and your assistant, if you have one, prior to being out.
For emergency circumstances such as you or a family member fall ill and you'll be out, please email myself, René, the office, and your assistant, if you have one, stating you will be out. For lead teachers, specialists, and case manages, in the email, you'll need to include who will be subbing for you along with your lesson plan for the day. If you are an assistant, please email stating you will be out.
G&C Challenge - Greeting Others
I frequently hear that there is a lack of grace and courtesy in our building. Most recently, this was discussed at our advisory meeting. There were several reasons brought up that could be causing this phenomena. I would like us to try to address this by recognizing grace and courtesy when we see it happening.
Thank you for practicing and recognizing G&C when interrupting politely.
This week I would like to pose a challenge for you to recognize students, families, and colleagues who greet others with grace and courtesy.
A Message from Duna
UMC Members and Friends,
First, the date for our 17th Annual UMC Conference has been changed to January 31st - February 1st 2020!! Please let me know if this changes what you can do for us.
Second, thank you for your ideas and help in pulling next year’s conference together. We’ve settled on a theme:
Education 2020: A Vision of the Past, Present and Future
Think about the possibilities!
We are hoping next year to 1) attract a larger crowd to be able to keep growing our conference, providing a richer and more satisfying experience every year and to 2) spread the Montessori message to those outside of our usual circles. We are scheduling a parent track, too. So think about inviting your non-Montessori friends as well as the parents at your school.
