Principal's Message
All of the office staff would like to thank the kind gestures of so many this Christmas. Your gifts and kind words were so appreciated by all of us!
This holiday, we were able to help 47 families from our school for Christmas as well as make a generous donation of the various clothing items you donated to MCREST-Macomb County Rotating Shelter Team.
With new years often comes time to think of new goals and things we want to accomplish. Encourage your child to “Begin with the End in Mind” and set some personal or school-related goals. Ideas include reading at home each night, setting the table or emptying the dishwasher. They could also be personal goals to improve in his/her favorite sport or activity! Learning to set goals and then develop a plan in which to accomplish those goals is a great skill which will lead to future success. Talk to your child(ren) about what kinds of goals he/she may be setting at school, as well as at home. Consider displaying those goals in a prominent location and check in weekly to see the progress that is being made!
I am looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled second half of our school year!
M-STEP
The M-Step is aligned to Michigan’s challenging learning standards and is administered each spring to students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade at the elementary level as well as to students in middle school and high school. Students will take the test by using the computers.
Due to our large number of students in each grade, we will set up a portable lab using our lap top computers in the media center which will allow us to have 2 classrooms testing at one time. The schedules for testing are tight and are difficult to change due to the state mandated test windows as well as the sheer number of students we need to get onto computers in order for them to test in a quiet environment conducive to them doing their best work.
This year, students in 3rd—5th grade will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) as well as Math. 5th graders will also be assessed in social studies and science.
The state assigns testing windows to which we must adhere. Please do your best to avoid scheduling appointments or vacations during the following testing windows:
3rd Grade: May 4-May 29
4th Grade: May 4-May 29
5th Grade: April 13-May 11
Outdoor Recess
We go outside on most days, unless the wind chill is just too cold. Please be sure to send your child to school with warm hats, and gloves. If it is snowy, please send snow pants and boots as well.
