MS/HS FAQ
August TSI
Dear Parents of STEM MS/HS Students:
In order to help our students have a positive and successful math experience, we encourage all students to own a graphing calculator. A graphing calculator will be used in all 4 years of their UTPB STEM Academy math courses, and should also be more than adequate for any college level work after high school. We realize there is a cost involved but we are hoping you see it as an 8-year educational investment in your son or daughter.
There are two options for graphing calculators listed below, these models are the models used on campus and in the classrooms, (TI 84 Edition is the MOST COMMON). We ask that any calculators labeled CAS not be purchased for school use, as these are not permitted for use on the STAAR/TSI/SAT test. These calculators can be purchased at many local stores like Office Depot, Staples, Target, or online at Amazon.com and other retailers. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Thank you, Candi Sikes

STEM Academy Student Technology Information
Technology Insurance Fee: For this upcoming school year, a Technology Insurance Fee of $30 is required. This fee will allow STEM to carry insurance on all school issued devices and ease the process of filing claims to get devices fixed in a timely manner.
· Fees must be paid online at: https://secure.touchnet.net/C22843_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=4
· If you are a High School Dual Credit student and choose to use a personal device, you may turn in your school issued device to the front office and the Technology Insurance Fee will be waived. *Note: This only applies to High School Dual Credit students.
· If you need assistance in paying this fee, please email stemacad@utpb.edu.
Returning students who kept their device over the summer: All returning students will continue to keep their school issued device for the 2020-2021 school year. If you are experiencing issues, put in a service ticket at: https://utpbstem.on.spiceworks.com/portal. Someone will reach out to you with next steps. If your device is lost, you will be required to pay for a replacement device. Payments must be paid online at: https://secure.touchnet.net/C22843_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=4).
Returning students who turned in their device when school was over: Devices can be picked up from the front office on August 3rd between 8am-4pm. Please call 432-552-2580 when you arrive at the school and the device will be brought out to your vehicle.
Returning student who will be in grades 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th: Devices will updated remotely on August 4th. Please have your school issued device, charged and turned on by 8:00am on August 4th. Once the device is turned on, look for the apple ID and complete process 1 or process 2 listed below:
· Process 1: If your school issued device is managed under the apple ID of jolito_j@utpb.edu, your device will be remotely signed out of that apple ID. No further action is required.
· Process Two: If you have been using a personal apple ID, you will need to sign out of that apple ID before 8:00am on August 4th.
STEM will supply your student with a school managed apple ID login on August 4th via email. This email will contain instructions for the sign in process. As a reminder, all school issued devices will be required to use the school managed apple ID.
Students with a school issued iPad: If you are having issues with the apple ID update after August 4th or are a new student and having issues setting up your iPad, a drive thru device help line will be available on August 5th from 8:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm.
For this process:
1. Bring your device fully charged to the STEM Academy drop off/pick-up lines.
2. Remain in your vehicle and call 432-552-2580 when you arrive.
3. Someone will come out and pick up your device to update it.
Please allow 15-30 minutes for this process.
New students: New students can pick up a school issued device on August 3rd between 8am-4pm. Please call 432-552-2580 when you arrive at the school and the device will be brought out to your vehicle.
Service tickets: If you are experiencing issues, put in a service ticket at: https://utpbstem.on.spiceworks.com/portal.
