BOARD OF TRUSTEES UPDATE
At our most recent meeting Laura Law stood down as the BOT Treasurer and member of the Toko School Board of Trustees. The BOT would like to thank Laura for her service to our school as an active and contributing representative.
The Board of Trustees will be co-opting Nia Chesswas onto the Board of Trustees as the new BOT Treasurer.
PTA UPDATES
At a most recent meeting with representatives from the PTA and BOT it was decided that we will not be proceeding with Calf & Lamb Day this year. After lots of discussion it was agreed unanimously to completely change this event for one year. As a result we will be running an AGRI Day at school. We are still in the beginning planning stages but we are going to run an agri kids top team challenge and invite Young Farmers, Dairy NZ, NZ St Johns, the local vets to name a few to assist with running workshops for children and families.
Children will still be encouraged to rear a calf or lamb at home. If they do so we would like them to:
Complete a diary of what they do at home to care for their animal. This could be presented as a poster, display board, video diary, slide show presentation, the options are endless. These will be displayed for people to view on our AGRI Day.
We are looking for some parents to get involved on the organising committee for this. If you would like to help out and have some good ideas can you please e.mail: office@toko.school.nz. We will have our first meeting early in Term 3 to begin the planning.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE UPDATE: SLINKS 2018
Just a short note to inform you that due to the threat of Mycoplasma Bovis, Toko School will not be setting up a roster system to collect Slinks this year. If you want to support the school by donating your slink calves we would love you to, but require you to transport them to the Slinks Trailer.
Collection days will be TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS AND SATURDAYS.
If farmers wish to drop calves off at the trailer, it will be sited 300m down Ahuroa Road on the right hand side. Please ensure that your calves are no older than 3-4 days old at time of collection.
This year the collection will start on Tuesday 17th July and conclude on Thursday 11th October.
Slinks will need to be at the trailer by 12.00 o’clock on pick up days.

YEAR 7 AND 8 DEBATING
On Tuesday our three Year 7 and 8 debating teams travelled to Stratford High to participate in the Rural Schools Debating Competition. The moot was ' The best team is the team that always wins'. All three teams debated really well and one of the adjudicators commented on the level of confidence with which our speakers delivered their side of the debate. Two of our teams won their debates and Pascoe and Judah were named best speakers in their debates. Well done to all teams.
