TIS THE SEASON TO BE......
So many thoughts come to mind to finish this such as: excited, overwhelmed, grateful, healthy etc... All of the above describe our school family at this time. We are excited about the upcoming break, maybe feeling a little overwhelmed with realizing first semester is almost over as it has gone so quickly, and grateful for good health to enjoy the special Christmas Season.
We are very proud of our students and families giving spirit! With your help the canned food drive was a HUGE SUCCESS as we were able to donate 2,140 cans to the Bulldog Pantry! In addition, the student council has been busy RINGING Bells for the Salvation Army raising $415.00! We look forward to sponsoring a school wide TOY DRIVE beginning Monday, December 14th through Friday, December 18th. This is all just a small way we can say thank you to our community for their ongoing support.
Let's have some fun Celebrating the final week of 2020 participating in a HOLIDAY SPIRIT WEEK December 14th-18th. All participants will have fun and earn house points! See details below.

Outstanding PRO LEADERS
CONGRATULATIONS TEAM EAGLE
Our students are getting ready for coding in their future! If you haven’t heard yet, our school’s Youth Coding League (YCL) project created by Team Eagle has made it to the 2nd round of voting
Team Eagle members Huda Alkilani and CJ Pobst created their project “Coding is the Future!” based on the competition guidelines to “demonstrate how coding can impact your future.” They spent several weeks creating their project which won the right to represent our school in the competition against 22 other area schools. Not only that, their project has also made it to the 2nd round in the Technical Merit competition which is judged by a team of professional software developers.
AND CJ also placed 6th in highest overall scores for the individual weekly projects which the students have been working on all semester. With over 300 students involved in YCL, that’s quite an accomplishment!
Good luck team and thanks everyone for voting for their project!
LIBRARY CORNER
December is always a busy time in our Media Center as next week also starts Computer Science Education Week and Hour of Code will begin! We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works, a critical 21st century skill. We want to ensure that our students are on the forefront of creating technology for the future--not just consuming it.
Our school has been fortunate to participate in Hour of Code each year since it began! This year’s Hour of Code board is now available on our school’s website at 56.sikestonr6.org/hourofcode with lots of projects for students to choose from. More information will also be posted in the Library’s Google Classrooms.
Students are also busy trying to meet their final 2nd Qtr. Accelerated Reader point goals these last few weeks and the library has the perfect books to help meet them. Students have become very proficient at using our Destiny program to help them locate the books they WANT to read and making their selections using our BOOKHUB program. Use the QR code above to locate it quickly online. And we have e-books available 24/7!
We are sad to report that this year the Six Flags Six Hour Reading program has been suspended due to Covid-19. Many of our students and parents always ask when it will start and look forward to it each year, so we are hoping it will only be temporary.
With the holiday season arriving soon, gift-giving is on the minds of many. What could be a better gift than a book which can help your child to become a better reader? After all, a toy may only last for a short while, but a great book can stay with you a lifetime!
Happy Holidays and until next time……..
