MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL MURPHY
Spring is in the air and it has brought us a gaggle of student volunteers!
We recently started a long term partnership with Academic Magnet to allow high school students the opportunity to complete volunteer service hours on a routine basis as a morning Student Partner. The program offer was so well received we had 22 students sign up! The students come each morning to aid a helping hand in the car rider line and then to serve as teacher helpers in the classrooms until they leave around 8:30 to start their school day next door. They have been a wonderful addition to our morning routines!
We also have a group of students coming from Howard University next week to complete service during their spring break. The program is called Howard University Alternative Spring Break and a small cadre of students will be coming down from Howard to work alongside our students in the classrooms.
The overall goal of each program is to inspire our students to see the opportunities around them by learning straight from the young people experiencing those opportunities now. Great to see our teenagers and young adults being the change they want to see in the world.
February NCCAE Service Project
February 28, 2023 is your last day to donate! Let's finish strong! Bring some diapers or wipes with you to Literacy Night!
DID YOU KNOW?
1 in 3 families in the US reports struggling with diaper need.
Infants and toddlers require six to ten diapers per day.
An adequate supply of diapers is a basic need and is essential to a child’s healthy development.
Government programs like WIC and SNAP do not cover diapers. For countless families, having enough diapers is a constant struggle. Without diapers, children cannot attend daycare, which may prevent parents from making an income. Diapers are not funded by WIC and SNAP programs, and without this financial assistance, babies are left in their diapers longer, leading to severe diaper rash that could lead to other medical problems.
NCCAE 2nd Graders take on this project annually to help families in need. Please consider donating. Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of families in need.
TONIGHT! FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT!

Important Attendance Notifications
Please be advised that our school will continue to review attendance records of students that have accrued more than 3 consecutive unexcused absences or 5 total unexcused absences. If your child's attendance record reflects the above description, they are considered truant and a letter will be sent home to schedule an attendance conference.
If you receive a letter for an attendance conference, please make arrangements to attend. If you need to reschedule the conference, please contact the school to set a new conference date.
When a student is absent, the school office must receive a valid excuse, written by the parent or guardian, within three (3) days after the student returns to school. This excuse must contain: student’s name, teacher’s name, date(s) of absence, specific reason for absence and signature of parent or guardian. Excuses received via email will NOT be accepted, as they must be written and signed by the parent.
