Teaching and Learning Corner
Growing into our greatness, lesson plan submissions increased from 72% last week to 97% this week. Thanks to those with timely submissions for your intentional planning for our scholars. Our goal this week is 100%. Please ensure that your plans are submitted by Monday at 8am.
This week’s instructional look for is:
"WRITE FIRST, TALK SECOND."
Give your scholars think time with a quick stop and jot before asking scholars to share out their answers.
Lesson Annotations: As you plan your lesson execution ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I give scholars an opportunity to write first, before engaging a talking strategy?
- Do I plan discussion strategies that effectively check for understanding?
CLIMATE AND CULTURE CORNER
Socio-emotional Teaching and Learning
We are committed to socio-emotional learning at GLA. Please remember that the socio-emotional time that is built into our days is non-negotiable.
- Educators in the Rising Stars Academy should be conducting morning meetings daily and utilizing the Path Curriculum.
- Educators in the Legendary Leaders Academy should be conducting i-Lead meetings/circles daily and utilizing the Morningside Center Curriculum.
- Educators in THE Collegiate Academy should be conducting Circles three times a week and utilizing the Morningside Center Curriculum.
- All classrooms should be making use of the Safe Place.
Our September Growth Mindset Mantra is "Everyone Can Learn". Along with the Jewel of the Month (Responsibility), the monthly growth mantra should be posted in all classrooms and referred to. Other growth mindset reminders:
- Have you and your scholars selected your growth mindset song/affirmation
- Are you incorporating one growth-mindset lesson per week into your Restorative time?
- Have you carved out time to read the September chapter of "The Growth Mindset Coach"?
- Have you sent home any Growth notes to parents?
Lets continue to "Grow into our Greatness" in regards to behavioral documentation this year. All behavior incidents must be logged in Review 360.

Clever Log In for Zearn
We found an easier way for scholars to log in to Zearn without Student ID numbers. Instead, scholars can open the clever app, show a QR code, and gain access that way.
Clever Badges gives all scholars a unique and fun way to log in to their learning software—no typing necessary. Teachers don’t have to spend classroom time getting everybody set up, and with Clever's unique direct-device login for iPads and other mobile devices like Chromebooks, even the youngest of learners can immediately start their lessons in their favorite apps without any help.
The video below features a young learner logging into a Chomebook, but the same applies for our iPads at Global Academies.
