What will my day be like at school?
The CHES Reopening Plan for the 2020-2021 School Year
CHSD Reopening Health and Safety Plan
**This is the plan as of today, July, 23, 2020: WE ARE OPENING OUR SCHOOLS FIVE DAYS A WEEK. As circumstances change and new mandates are ordered by the state and/or federal government, this Reopening Plan may change. You will be notified as soon as changes are made.
On the Bus
Yellow Phase - Students will sit one per seat and wear masks/face shields. Only half the amount of students will be riding the bus every other day. Parents are encouraged to take your child's temperature at home, but students will also have their temperatures taken before being admitted to the school. Students with a temperature of 100.4 will be escorted to the nurse's office.
Green & Yellow Phase -
Family members are encouraged to sit together on the buses.
Buses will drop off and pick up students using 4 different exits around the elementary school.
Parent drop off and pick up will remain at the front of the building on Campbell Street.
NO BUS PASSES WILL BE ISSUED! All students MUST ride the bus/van assigned to them or be picked up at the school by an adult listed on their approved contact sheet. Exceptions will be made for families with custody orders and during Early Dismissals.
In the Main Office
Any parent who needs to pick up their child will sign in using the School Gate Guardian System using their government issued ID. Parents will remain in the foyer, and your child will be brought to you in the foyer. Only 2 people are permitted in the foyer at a time to allow for social distancing.
Students will not be allowed in the main office unless they are being picked up. Handwritten notes for early pick ups, doctors' excuses, PTO forms, etc. will be placed in a homeroom envelope to be picked up by a staff member to bring to the office. Any materials that parents bring in for their children will be transferred to the office staff through the foyer and placed in the office lobby for students to pick up.
**NO BUS PASSES WILL BE ISSUED with the exception of families with custody orders. **
Breakfast Time
In the Hallway
Locker Use: Student should report straight to homeroom with all of their belongings. Students will store their packed lunch in the classroom. The teachers will stagger students to visit their lockers. Locker assignments will be spread out as much as possible.
Classroom
Students are encouraged to bring their own school supplies to limit sharing supplies. A list with suggested supplies will be shared with you soon.
Students will be issued their own electronic device to use for the entire year. Students in grades K-2 will be issued an iPad, and students in grades 3-5 will be issued a Chromebook. Devices will NOT be shared. Devices will be used in the classroom as well as at home if the situation calls for it. Protective carrying cases will be provided.
All classrooms are provided with a hot water sink and hand soap and/or hand sanitizer, and wipes. Students will be required to wash their hands often and wipe down surfaces before and after use.
Green Phase - All students return. Students will still switch classes. Grades 4 & 5 will switch for all subjects with their academic class group. Grades 1-3 will switch classes for Reading and Math.
Yellow Phase - All students will be split into two groups. Group A would have in-person learning on Monday and Wednesday. Group B would have in-person learning on Tuesday and Thursday. Remote learning would be conducted on the days students do not have in-person learning using a district-issued device. Fridays will be used for make-up, extra help, office hours, progress monitoring, and parent meetings.
Locations in each CHSD building will be made available on Fridays for students to visit in-person for teacher and para-educator assistance with online assignments. Families must provide transportation for this opportunity.
Lunch Time
Green & Yellow Phases - Students will pick up their lunch from the cafeteria and eat lunch in their classrooms. Students will use a hands-free ID card scanning system to buy their lunch. This ID card will be kept on a lanyard in their homerooms. This lanyard and card should NOT be taken home. Lunch will be served on throw away trays and condiments will be prepackaged.
The opportunity to eat outside is available as the weather permits and according to the teacher's plans.
Recess Time
Recess will be held outside every day as much as possible, limiting the number of students in each assigned area. The recess area will be split into 3 sections and used in a rotating manner: blacktop, soccer field, and playground equipment. Masks will not be worn during outdoor recess. Masks will be worn during indoor classroom recess.
On rainy days or days below 32 degrees, students will have alternative activities held within the building.
If it is not raining and above 32 degrees, students will go outside.
If it is snowing and above 32 degrees, students will still go outside and be required to wear snow pants, boots, hats, gloves, and winter coats to play. Please plan accordingly.
Students will be allowed to store an extra set of snow pants at school if families would want to do so. Boots can be worn to school and students can change into their shoes for the day.

Masks, Face Shields, and Face Coverings
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has mandated that: “Children two years and older are required to wear a face covering unless they have a medical or mental health condition or disability, documented in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or IDEA, that precludes the wearing of a face covering in school. Accommodations for such students should be made in partnership with the student’s health care provider, school nurse, and IEP/504 team.”
All students will be provided with one washable CHES face mask. Students can choose to wear a face mask, face shield, or face covering. Disposable face masks will be available in the event that a student forgets his or her face mask or it gets lost or destroyed.
CHSD Remote Learning Option
CHSD Remote Learning Program Information:
1. CHES teachers will be facilitating the remote learning lessons and assignments.

3. Students will be graded using the A, B, C, D, F grading scale, NOT pass/fail.
4. Students must complete all assignments in a timely manner to receive credit.
