August 23, 2020

We began our first week of the 2020-2021 school year, and although it was virtual we were excited to see our students. It was great to see their smiling faces, and begin making connections with the students. Despite a few technology glitches, our staff and students rose to the challenge. I would like to take a moment to remind parents that in order to ensure the privacy of all students please do not record or take pictures of the live virtual sessions. I am looking forward to being in their classrooms in the upcoming week even if it is virtual

I am sure many of you still have questions in regards to what they can expect with virtual learning. Our school day will begin with our normal start time of 8:40 a.m. (Monday-Friday). Our teachers will take attendance and begin a day of learning. The learning day will end at our normal end time of 3:25 for Monday -Thursday and 2:25 on Fridays. You can find more information about virtual learning, and what a typical day will look like on our district website.

The district expectation is that students are in attendance for the school day. The district will be following the attendance guidelines that have been laid out by the Illinois State Board of Education. Teachers will be taking attendance first thing in the morning, just as if they were in person. After their morning attendance, teachers will take attendance during each of the live instructional sessions.

Our PTA realizes that some parents were unable to attend the yearbook pick-up in June. They will have a yearbook pick-up on August 28th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The pick-up will take place at 1170 Dresden Ct; Hoffman Estates, IL. 60192. Yearbooks will only be available for those that ordered yearbooks. Please remember to wear masks and keep social distancing in mind during the pick-up.

We want to maintain some of the fun activities that we did last year, even if we are doing school virtually. We will have our first Spirit Day on Friday, August 28th. Our first theme will be Favorite Sports Team! Mrs. Rivera and Mrs Drogos will be sporting their favorite baseball team, the Cubs. Be sure to take some photos and send them to Mrs. Rivera to put on our Whiteley Facebook Page. .

Curriculum Night

We will be hosting our curriculum night this Wednesday. We split our sessions between primary and intermediate. Unfortunately some families have students with the sessions at the same time slot, which mirrors what has been done in years past. Many of our staff will have slide decks, or other information that they can share with you if you are unable to attend their session. This is an opportunity for parents to learn about routines, procedures, and curriculum.

We will continue to share pictures and videos with parents though Facebook. In fact, I am sure many of you will be taking Back to School pictures of your children. You can send those pictures to Mrs. Rivera and we will post them on our school Facebook page.
