Gilbert Public Schools Family Newsletter - May 1, 2020

Dear GPS Parents and Families,

There are a lot of celebrations for various groups of staff this week and next week, and we invite you to join us in celebrating our incredible GPS employees!

Today is Principal Day! These last few months our Principals have been asked to navigate new territory while ensuring that our students and families continue to experience the very best from Gilbert Public Schools. Join me in celebrating our Principals today!

Today is also School Lunch Hero Day! Please join us in celebrating our incredible Nutrition Services team who shine every day in our schools, and right now are serving over 6,500 meals a day to our children!

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers care deeply about our students and their learning, and I am so proud that we have the best teachers right here at Gilbert Public Schools! I invite you to show gratitude for our teachers next week by posting messages of support on social media, using the hashtag - #GPSThankATeacher

Next week is also School Nurse's Day on May 6! We are grateful for our school nurses every day, and the important role they play in our schools! Please join me in thanking all of our school nurses for the incredible work they do for our students!

Gilbert Public Schools is a family, and each of us plays a significant part in the education and growth of our children! Thank you for joining me in celebrating our GPS employees and the positive impact they have on our students and community!

We are here for you and we appreciate your continued support of your students and our Gilbert Public Schools community! We continue to update our community as information becomes available and we appreciate your patience! Please read on for some important updates.

Campo Verde Announced as "Distinguished School" by Project Lead the Way

Congratulations to Campo Verde High. They have been selected as a "Distinguished School" by Project Lead the Way (PLTW), for their Biomedical Science Program. They are one of 143 schools nationwide and only one of two schools recognized in Arizona this year. Each year, PLTW will recognize districts and schools that are empowering students to thrive in an evolving world and achieving exemplary results from their PLTW programs.

Week Five of Remote Learning

Don't Forget: If you have questions please reach out to your teachers and schools by visiting the Contact Us page of your school website. Also, check out our parent remote learning page for support and tips, and visit www.gilbertschools.net/alerts for district updates.

ACT Update

We were unable to administer the ACT© to our juniors this past March due to the events surrounding the COVID-19 epidemic. It is important to us that students receive the opportunity to take the free ACT©. Therefore, Gilbert Public Schools plans to administer the ACT© to Seniors in the Fall of 2020. At this time, we do not have a firm date that can be shared with you; however, we are committed to providing this opportunity to our students.

GEF Foundation - Fundraising for GPS Families in Need

Please help donate today to GEF’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund. The Gilbert Education Foundation is not only about innovation grants, scholarships and enrichment, but also about helping our families. GEF’s S.H.A.N.E. Program provides emergency funding to those families in need. Sharing Helping And Nurturing Everyone = S.H.A.N.E.

This fund will be used for those in our GPS community with the most urgent needs. Needs such as housing, utilities, food, medical, transportation, remote learning supplies, and more. We will run this campaign through May 5, which is global “Giving Tuesday.” Please consider donating locally and share with your family and friends to help us raise money.
