Honors Reading Update
Attention: Parent and Students
Honors Reading Updates
Below you will find a link to an updated Honors Reading List. If you prefer to use the previous list this year, that is fine. There may be a book on the old list that is not on the new list. It is fine to use either list or a combination of the two for the 2018-19 school year. We will phase out the old and use only the new in the 2019-20 school year. Notice that we ask that one selection be used as a family read aloud. Love of reading comes from home and we don’t want you to miss out on the joy of reading together as a family. You might even want to download a selection through “Audible” and listen in the car.
Our Honors Reading Program is a vital part of an SBA education and a Charlotte Mason education. The selections are deemed to be what Charlotte Mason called “Living Books." Living books are well written, containing literary language to make a direct appeal to the mind, to stir the imagination, and hold the child’s interest. While children sometimes love to read books that are considered “twaddle” with no real value, we must remember that children must grow up on the best. They need to be exposed to worthy thoughts well put and inspiring tales well told. Children brought up on great books do better than those educated on few books and many lectures. Daniel Defoe, Louisa May Alcott, Robert Louis Stevenson, C.S. Lewis, and the list goes on, should become good friends to our children. “Literature, books, education, and life all go hand in hand. The best literature is the human heart of education.”

Athletic Forum
The Athletics Department would like to invite you to attend our Athletic Forum on Monday, October 22nd, at 6:30pm in the Chapel. In the Spring, we hosted an Athletic Town Hall. While the Athletic Forum will be similar to the Town Hall event, it will be different in a couple of ways.
First, the Athletic Forum is an opportunity each semester for you as a parent to hear from our athletics leadership here at Silverdale. We will be presenting the current state of athletics as well as depicting the future of our Athletics Program.
Second, it will be an opportunity for a few general questions to be asked about the future of our Athletics Program. We want our parents to have a clear understanding of what we are doing and where we are headed.
We hope you will join us on the 22nd!
Join Us
Join us every Tuesday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in Room 114 of the Student Ministry Building across the creek for a time of prayer led by Mrs. Kelli Preast and Mrs. Angela Tumlin, two of our SBA parents. If you are unable to stay for the entire hour, you are more than welcome to drop by anytime between 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
We are excited about this opportunity and would love to have you join us to pray for our Academy, faculty and staff, students and parents.
The Christmas Shoppe
The Christmas Shoppe will be open for students to shop November 14th - 16th. Elementary students will visit the shoppe with their classrooms at scheduled times.
