Spotlight on LEarning
Learning @ Prestwick
Career Portals with Mrs. Lucas wrapped up their unit on Law and Public Safety having Prestwick's very own SRO Officer JP fingerprint students and discuss the roles and responsibilities of careers in Law Enforcement. The Director of AMR Communications Command Center spoke to students about their role and responsibility of covering 70% of Texas' 911 calls. Students learned the importance of calling 911 in case of an emergency, what is happening behind the scenes when a 911 center receives a call, and the skills needed to work in this field. After their presentation, students toured a mobile 911 control center that is dispatched when natural disasters, catastrophic, or criminal events occur. This mobile center also aids FEMA when assistance is needed.
Learning also happens continually for the PSA staff. This week there was a a team of PSA members that went to the Texas STEM Conference to find new ways to continue building upon the STEM programs, clubs, and ways of thinking. This team will share their finds and connections with their teams and staff. The conference has reaffirmed how important cultivating future-readiness skills and working through the engineering design process truly are!
Learning also happens as a community. We would like to thank the Prestwick families for coming out and enjoying eating In-n-Out sponsored by our amazing PTA and experiencing some fun ways to learn. A big thank you to Pegasus Rising, a group of creative minds, that are designing and a building a robot to try to compete on BattleBots and iCode!
Humble Girls Helping
Now the girls need your help! They are kicking off a sock drive. There will be posters and clothes lines up for each grade level to clip socks on their clothes line to donate to those you need it. Let's make a difference and help this club out by donating some new socks!
Staff Spotlight
Greeting Lobos! We will wrap up our admin spotlight with our fearless principal, Mrs. Christine Gibson. Mrs. Gibson was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Master's Degree in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Mrs. Gibson began her education career as a bilingual PreKindergarten teacher and in 2004 Gibson joined Little Elm ISD. She has served in different school and community leadership positions to include: early intervention specialist, assistant principal and district leadership committees. In 2012, she participated in the district visioning committee to assist in designing Prestwick STEM Academy and in 2013 was named Principal of PSA.
She has been a resident of Little Elm for 13 years and now lives in Oak Point with her husband and five children. When Mrs. Gibson is not working, she enjoys relaxing and spending quality time with her wonderful family. Prestwick is pleased to have Mrs. Gibson as part of our PSA family.
