Section 504

Individuals may qualify for protection under Section 504 due to a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity. Impairments may be academic, auditory, visual, behavioral, dyslexia, physical, or other temporary conditions. Students found to be eligible for Section 504 may have a 504 Accommodation Plan to ensure equal access to education. Watch the short video below for an explanation of 504 Plans.

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.

How Do I Know if it's Dyslexia?

Dyslexia characteristics can manifest as both difficulties with reading and strengths in other areas. While the characteristics listed below are for Kindergarten and 1st grade, they may be seen in students of all ages.
