Books! Gadgets! Fun!

We LOVE February!

We have been learning lots in the NPES Learning Commons! Kindergarten celebrated the 100th day of school by reading 100 books in 100 minutes; all Kindergarten classes and some 1st and 2nd grade classes have been reading South Carolina Picture Book Award nominees with Mrs. Byrd Fort; Mrs. Frye's class has been working on an author study with Mrs. Byrd Fort and Ms. Burkett; Mrs. Blewett's students are learning about some good non-fiction books at a "Book Tasting"; and 5th graders are gearing up for a Harlem Renaissance Cafe!

If you would like to schedule something with your Learning Commons Team, please let us know! We would love to help you and your students!

Love,

Mrs. Byrd Fort, Mrs. Gobbi, and Ms. Burkett

Makerspace Moments! Spotlight: Makey Makey!

Makerspace Moments are a time when students can come to the Learning Commons to explore and create. This month's spotlight is Makey Makey (http://makeymakey.com/)!

Makey Makey is an "invention kit for everyone." Students will figure out how to create a keyboard out of play dough (and whatever else they come up with)!

We will also be making star bursts out of straws and there will be rainbow loom materials available.

If you would like to participate as a class, let me know and we can work something out!

The Makerspace Moments schedule:

Tuesdays 9am - 10am AND 12:30pm-1pm

Wednesdays 12pm - 1pm

After School Make Shop for Teacher's Kids!

We have had so much fun at our after school Make Shops this school year! Please note that there will not be a Make Shop for the rest of the school year - but, please encourage your kids to keep MAKING!
