Message from the Headteacher

Dear Families,

As we come to the end of the Autumn term I would like to thank all of you for the support we have received since the beginning of the term.

A big thank you needs to be said to all of the staff who have worked tirelessly this term to provide our children with the very best education and I am hugely grateful to them.

As you can see below (and in previous newsletters) a lot has been happening since September and the children have been working extremely hard to produce some amazing work. We recently carried out our pupil progress meetings and it was amazing to see how much progress children have made since the start of the term.

I hope you managed to enjoy the live streamed Nativity and Winter Concerts. It was our first time trying these over livestreams and I think they went well. Links to the recordings of these can be found below.

For those of you who celebrate, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and I would like to wish everyone a restful and safe break.

We look forward to the children returning on Wednesday 5th January 2022.

Mr Vernalls

Year 2 Nativity

This year the Year 1 and 2 children did a wonderful job practicing and preparing for the Nativity: The Angel Who Nearly Missed it All.

I hope you join us in saying a massive THANK YOU to the Year 1 and 2 teachers to putting in so much time, effort, and patients into supporting children with learning all the new songs, endless number of lines, and with each move as they enter stage right and exit stage left. We would also like to thank the children for staying focused and putting forth a great production for parents and the other children at school.

If you missed the production, you can view the complete Nativity below. We hope you enjoy watching this production!

Southwark Park School Advent Calendar

This Christmas might be the time you’re deciding to give your child their first phone, tablet, or laptop (or third, fourth, fifth – even a new update). This is a big decision! The responsibility and freedom that comes with owning a device is a big step for children – and you! It might even be their first “grown up” responsibility.

As a parent or carer, it’s important to remember that even if a child is tech-savvy, they need to be taught how to be tech-safe. We know this can be daunting with various device brands, apps, and settings to choose from. Online safety experts have created 5 steps to help you make that first device (or brand-new model!) safer for the child or young person in your care. Please take some time to consider the suggestions below and click here to find out more!

  1. Do your homework
  2. Set up the device with your child

  3. Discuss and agree on healthy device habits

  4. Check-in with your child

  5. Keep yourself informed

When it comes to online safety, there is never a one-off conversation – it’s a continuing dialogue. It may take more work from your end at the start. Don’t let that deter you! Continue to show your child that you’re interested in their responses and thoughts.
