Hearne Elementary's Playbook
Week of September 17, 2018
Believe in us...
Believe in the power of us.
If we collectively work together to achieve our goals and put forth our strengths, we will achieve them and in fact, exceed them! This power of influence and impact exists on all teams and throughout our building.
As we begin "Target Time Intervention" and our vertical alignment walks this week, take a moment to reflect on the why. Just like with teaching, if you know the why the what and how will come together.
Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing:
We are all aware that we need to show growth as a campus and close the achievement gap.
Let's come together to support each other and work smarter, not harder. Nascar has evolved over the past 50 years to do just that! Enjoy the video below and see first-hand the power of teamwork and truly knowing your position and playing it well to support the why.
1st-4th Grade teachers: you will receive your "target time" intervention spreadsheets on Monday morning. We will practice for 2 days before we fully implement.
Thank you to everyone for always going above and beyond. We have an amazing staff and we are going to the TOP!
You are making a difference!
You matter!
Your students need you!
-Johanna Sanchez, Shon Brown, and Jose Serpas
Check out all the awesome things we did this week on Twitter! Keep tweeting the good things happening!
Congratulations, Mrs. Kazemizadeh!
During her time of leave, students who receive speech therapy will still be serviced by other therapists. We will certainly miss Mrs. Kazemizadeh!
Flu Shots at Hearne
Good morning Hearne Huskies! AISD Wellness will again be sending someone to give flu shots. For Hearne it will be Tuesday, September 25 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. If you have Alief ISD insurance, bring your card (they required us to write the ID # last year), if you do not it is $25.
Unless you have a medical contraindication, I strongly recommend that everyone get a flu shot, for your safety and the safety of the students, family, and friends you come in contact with. Some people who cannot get a flu shot for a medical reason rely on the rest of us to protect them. Thanks!
-Nurse Nancy

Our current campus data
AVID in Action Orientation for High School students is on Friday, September 21st!
We need more classroom hosts! Sign up today!
Hearne has partnered with Taylor High School's AVID students to bring AVID in Action to our building this year.
Forty high school scholars will report to Hearne every Friday to serve and mentor students in their assigned classrooms. While in the classrooms, the AVID scholar's job is to provide support, encouragement, and tutoring to students in need. These students are the best and brightest in Alief.
The AVID Scholars are currently taking a True Colors personality test and selecting their grade level preferences. All PK-4 classes are eligible to participate. We will place tutors based on their grade level preference and teacher requests. They will be in your class all year!
Services students can do:
- small group tutoring
- individual tutoring
- "extra hands" during whole class instruction
- support with bulletin boards
Services students should not do:
- watch class while the teacher leaves the room
- grade papers or clerical work
- clean up classroom
Time slots for AVID tutors (they are students at Taylor HS so they will come for 30 minute service times):
9:15-9:45 am
10:10-10:40 am
11:50am-12:30pm
12:55-1:20pm
