Colt Round Up

"Give thanks for all the opportunities that even our struggles bring." - Unknown
With Appreciation:
- Lauretta won the Stronger U contest - thanks to all who participated! Here is a video of the drawing!
- Thank you to Tricia for her work in organizing and printing our Trimester 1 awards certificates - this is no small task!
- Kudos to our lunch team and campus supervisor team for their work in facilitating lunch efficiently on our 1230 release days. We had over 180 students get hot lunch on Friday in the span of 50 minutes - that number is almost as much as pizza day! Wow!
Quick Reminders
- the fire marshal will be here on Friday starting at 1:30 pm. Please take care to give your room a once over to be sure it meets expectations on sheet you received. Please avoid scheduling meetings or other activities in your room on Friday after 1:30 - the goal is for your room to be empty when the fire marshal arrives with Stan from the DO.
- during conferences, please take a minute to let families know their child will be earning an award and give them a printed invitation. If it's easier, email to PDF invite to them this week instead. The PDF can be found here and the share setting is set to public so families should be able to view it, too.
- please be sure to inform your parents about iReady during conferences - let the know what it is, how it helps our student achievement, and that if they do it at home, families should NOT help them. Kristen and I will be hosting a parent info gathering on 12/6 to share more about iReady with families.
- Mrs. Stanley and other LCES families will be hosting a drive to collect items for families impacted by the Camp Fire - it will be on Tuesday, 11/13. See details below in case you get questions.
- as we get past report cards and parent meetings, take some time to review your classroom/grade level website and be sure it is up to date.
- The 41st annual Christmas Basket Food Drive has started and runs through 11/30! All food collected stays in Lincoln and Sheridan to benefit local families. Pick up a box in the foyer
Camp Fire Collection Details
Our local community is pulling together to support those who are impacted by the Camp Fire, and the fires in Southern California. Our neighbors are taking in friends and family who have lost everything.
- On Tuesday, 11/13, we will be hosting a collection by the bus zone
- From 7:30am-1:30 pm, you can drop off items (new or gently used but clean clothing (preferably warm items) toys, shoes, bedding, suitcases, toiletries, diapers, crafts, etc...) at our drive, and our volunteers will be sorting and organizing things. We will not be taking gift cards or cash, but you can learn where to donate those items from our volunteers
- From 2-4 pm, families who have been displaced to Lincoln or Lincoln families who have family/friends in Paradise can come get what they need
- Any items that are not picked up will be donated to a shelter benefiting the Paradise community.
Resources to Support Children Experiencing Trauma
In this time of the Camp Fire, we are reminded that students (and adults) experience trauma all too often, and things like the holidays can bring those traumatic experiences into sharp focus. Here are a few articles with some ideas on how to support folks dealing with trauma.
- 8 ways to support students dealing with trauma (from Edutopia)
- short and long term impact of trauma - lessons learned from the Santa Rosa fires (from The 47)
- resource on how to spot and respond to trauma (from tolerance.org)
- resources for how to support wildfire specific trauma (from NCTSN)
Remember that we have our EAP resources available to our staff and their families 24/7.
PBIS Update
Kristen and I have enjoyed the chance to connect with some of our students in grades 2, 3 and 5 who earned referrals this month - we've been focusing less on the choices we made and more on what we can do gong forward. We've been reviewing the idea of bucketfilling and bucket dipping. Grades K, 1 and 4 - let us know when you plan your 'no referral celebration" and if you need us to work with your non-participants!
iReady data Checkin
The Week of 10/29-11/4, 5 staff had 40% + of there students on iReady Reading for 45+ min and 4 staff had 50% + of their students on iReady Math for 45+ min.
Remember that our goal is for students to spend 30-45 min/week on math and reading intervention. They can do this at home, at school or something in between.
We have had reports from staff that having students do iReady minutes as part of their HW has been effective (especially for younger students) and that using the data chat tool that Pam B. from iReady shared with us has been an amazing motivator, especially for older students.
