Pedagogical Discussion Series
Dear colleagues,
We hope you have marked your calendars for our upcoming AbFab pedagogical
discussion series for all BA faculty. Over lunch or dinner, we really look
forward to seeing you very soon and resume our collegial conversation.
This time we will explore another two of our program learning objectives:
"Social and intercultural awareness," and "Civic and community engagement."
We will consider whether and how do we as faculty manage to infuse these in
our pedagogy, syllabi and classroom practices.
Before we meet please take a moment to watch a brief TED Talk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpCzIniPZDU You will see how Ben Warner,
President and CEO of Jacksonville Community Council discusses "New Models of
Civic Engagement," covering a wide range of approaches and practices that
foster active connections between individuals, community-based
organizations, and public servants, both locally and globally.
Even if you have seen this talk before, please check it out again, and as
you watch, consider in which ways the notions of Social and Intercultural
Awareness as well as that of Civic Engagement influence the content and
goals of your courses. What do we mean when we refer to those topics in the
context of our educational practice?
When we next meet we hope to engage once again on a lively conversation that
reaches from syllabus construction and development of assignments into role
modeling in the classroom and managing discussions.
