Eugene Field Elementary School Library

May 2016

free books

I have added a number of discarded books to the free book carts. Please come to the library when you have a chance and take a look. They will be out before the staff meeting May 4. I will allow students to take any books left after May 6.

Summer Reading

Public Library

Tracey Gail from the South Broadway Library will be at Eugene Field on Tuesday, May 17, to promote the public library's summer reading program. The ABQ-BernCo library (did you know they've rebranded?) is offering a multitude of programming for all ages this summer. May 17 is the 3-5 play day, so she will most likely visit with the primary classes, and I will pass the summer reading information on to intermediate classes. A sign up sheet is forthcoming.

Dion's Pizza Club Read

Dion's Pizza and the Isotopes are again teaming up to encourage kids to read this summer. Many students received a flyer at Literacy Night, but I still have plenty of flyers to distribute during the next few weeks. You can read more here: http://www.dions.com/community/club-read-program/

New Mexico True Reading Challenge

It appears that the New Mexico PED is again offering their New Mexico True Summer Reading Challenge. Students who read six books will receive a certificate and bookmark. Students who read 12 books and write an essay about why they love New Mexico will be entered for a chance to win some fabulous prizes. I have not seen the flyers yet, but last year they were sent to schools before the end of the school year. More information can be found here: http://www.readingchallenge.ped.state.nm.us/

End of Year Business

Last day of check out...

is May 6. All student check outs are due May 13. All teacher check outs are due May 20.

Let's get those books in!

Please encourage your students to return their books. As you are cleaning out desks and cubbies, keep an eye out for those sneaky books that may be hiding.

May 23-25

The library will be closed so I can complete a partial inventory and get the library ready for the summer.
