Principal's Message
Happy Monday Bear Creek Cubs,
We hope you had a great spring break and your basketball brackets are not totally broken. We engaged in a lot of reflection over the break. Wow what a year. We hope that several aspects of our new normal stick around while we will be happy to see some go away :-)
Personally I spend a lot of time thinking about what matters and how that has changed in some respects and in others it has not.
We do know we are stronger for "this" and it is a great time to be a Cub. Thank you for all of your support and positive energy as we have navigated through these waters attempting to create the best environment for your children.
Please hang with us on the length of this newsletter but there are several important items.

What Do If Your Child Is Not Feeling Well
We have had a lot of people traveling so we want to make sure that everyone is still aware of our protocols regarding illness.
If your child is ill with symptoms consistent (cough, sore throat, stomach issues, headaches, fatigue, congestion, etc ...) with Covid-19 contact Mr. Crissey and your child's teacher and then the following protocols must be followed:
Students May Return After
10 days have passed since symptoms started, and improvement in overall symptoms, and 24 hours have passed without fever and use of fever-reducing medication.
OR
Provide doctor’s note to campus health room staff stating that symptoms are not COVID-19-related and student can return to school.
OR
Provide a negative COVID-19 test.
As an FYI the same holds true for staff members.

Bear Creek Dance Fit - Our First Ever PTA Fundraiser!
Parents and Families—this year, our PTA is hosting a fundraiser called the Bear Creek Dance Fit! It’s a two-week program that kicks off on April 14th. Families will then gather pledges in preparation for the main event on April 23th. This year our goal is to raise $35,000 for Teacher and Student Support, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Not only are we raising funds for Bear Creek Elementary, our students are also learning how to live with character and the 5 core values of Bear Creek Elementary through Booster's new character theme: Sports City Now - a fitness theme about activating character and an active lifestyle! You can check out all of this year's character videos at FUNRUN.COM.

On Campus Numbers
Just for informational purposes we have a total of 494 students enrolled and 331 are on-campus learners and 163 are remote learners. We are currently at approximately 67% capacity which is the 3rd highest percentage in the district.
Commitment Forms And Registration
As we prepare for the 2021 -2022 school year we need two tasks completed, both of which are required by the district.
1 – AISD registration. Currently we only have about 70% of students registered. Our staffing is based on this and we need to have 100% by the end of the week if at all possible. Please go to this link for detailed information.

THIS % IS HOW WE GET STAFFED SO IT IS IMPERATIVE TO GET THIS DONE. THANK YOU!
2 – Bear Creek Commitment Form
We as a campus is also required to gain commitment from family for intent regarding the 2021-2022 school year. Please complete this form prior to the end of the week.

If you think you have done the task but you are not sure I can check.

Counselor's Corner
Hello Bear Creek Cubs!
I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break and feel rested.
It seems more and more we are seeing violence occur all over our country and the world. We can't seem to escape the breaking news of when bad things happen. In a time where these events and updates can be found not only on TV, but all over the internet, it can be hard to shield our children from all the negative, stressful, and sometimes scary information.
With introduction to such mature content, questions may arise. It may be helpful to have some good tips and resources to assist in those conversations with kids of all ages. I invite you to take a look at the infographic provided for some age appropriate ways to talk to kids about violence and thigs they may see. We don't want our kids to become desensitized to these inhumane acts nor do we want them to believe this is the majority. Helping our kids talk through these situations and reminding them of their safety network can be just what they need to hear to maintain that trust they are safe.
You can also follow this link for more in-depth info on how to talk to your kiddos about violence.
