Atom
-an atom is the smallest particle of an element, but it still has the same properties of an element
-atoms are made of smaller particles called Protons, Electrons, and Neutrons, smaller electrons orbit the nucleus made of protons, and neutrons
-If i were to ask my friend Adam what he were made of, would he say atoms?
Atomic Number
-you can tell one element from another by its atomic number
-the symbol for an atomic number is Z
-in an element symbol the atomic number is in the lower left
-Miranda likes to name the elements by only using the Atomic Number it's a game she plays with Mike.
Electron
-the mass of an electron is less than 1/1,000th the mass of a proton
-Electrons bring you down, or at least tats what Savannah said.
Electron Dot Diagram
-helium has two valance electrons
-The Electron Dot Diagram makes categorizing elements easier.
Element
-elements are made of one type of atom
-atoms of different elements are told apart by how many protons are in the nucleus
-Elements are in everything even the elephants at the zoo.
Energy Level
-If you know how many Energy Levels an element has you can find out what period it's in.
Ion
-an atom with more protons than electrons is a positive charged ion, also called cation
-an atom with more electrons than protons is a negative charged ion, also called an anion
-the electric charge is shown at the at the upper right if an element symbol
-Each elements has so many Ions, it's hard to keep track of them all.
Isotope
-all isotopes of an element have the same number of protons, but have a different number of neutrons
-most isotopes are radioactive, most elements have one or two stable isotopes
-Like ions, Isotopes are different, but some are more dangerous than others.
Mass Number
-the symbol fr mass number is A
-the mass number is in the upper left of the element symbol
-Scientist use the atomic number and the Mass Number to find out hoe many neutrons an element has.
Neutron
-neutrons has slightly more more mass then protons
-the number is described by the neutron number N
-to find the neutron number subtract the atomic number from the mass number
-Neutrons are plain, they seam to have nothing inside of them they can't pick a personality, there just neutral.
Nucleus
-the nucleus contains protons, and neutrons
-Like the Nucleus of a cell the nucleus of an atom is in the middle, it also holds the information that makes the atom what it is.
Periodic Table
-The Periodic table has so many different elements on it, it's hard to memorize only a few have been able to memorize the whole thing.
Proton
-protons have slightly less mas than neutrons
-the number of protons determines the element
-Protons are so positive, they are happy little suckers deciding what kind of element the atom is.
Ratiocative
-radioactive atom spontaneously decay and emit particles and or light from the nucleolus, that is called radiation
- the energy released by radioactive elements can be harnessed to produce electricity in a nuclear power plant, this energy also can be used to create a nuclear bomb
-if radiation changes the number of protons in a atom the element changes
-Some ions are Radioactive they tend to explode when other particles.
Valence Elcetrons
-If you know how many Valence Electrons an element has you can find out what Group/Family it's in.
Chemical Reaction
-Chemical Reactions can be dangerous, but they sure are you to watch.
Physical Change
-no new substances are formed
-A Physical Change normal edits the appearance pf an object.
Reactant
-Reactants are the pieces to make the finished product.
Product
-Products are made of the pieces called reactants, products are the fished point.
Conservation of Mass
-The Law Of Conservation Of Mass keeps the mass of a substance the same throughout a chemical reaction.
Balanced Cemical Equation
-Balanced Chemical Equations made scientist's jobs a whole lot easier, they make peace between the elements.
Sublimation
-Sublimation is extreme, its passes though a state in matter without a care in the world.
Precipitate
-When a substance is Precipitated, comes into this world as a rock hard solid.
Compound
-Compounds like to stick together, almost nothing can separate them.
Mixture
-Mixtures aren't as tight, they can be shattered easily.
Solution
-Solutions make two substances into one.
Solute
-The Solute likes to disappear, to combine with another thing.
Solvent
-The Solvent likes to made things disappear, to make another substance combine with it.
Group
-The number on top of the Group tells how many valance electrons is each element in that group.
Period
-The number, on the side of the Period tells how many energy levels each element in that period has.
Electron Configuration
-The Electron Configuration has its own periodic table.
Dmitri Mendeleev
-Dmitri Mandeleev made scientist job easier.
