GCISD Learning Institute (GCLI) - August 9th @ GHS
The Curriculum and Instruction department is excited to launch registration for the GCISD Learning Institute of 2018! Please take some time to read the attached information to guide your registration decisions before you leave for the summer. Sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis, so registering soon is going to provide participants with the most options. However, we have nearly doubled our number of sessions from last year, so there is more available to you.
Navigating the Sched app for registration can seem a bit daunting with nearly 800 sessions from which to choose, so please also take the time to watch this screencast for guidance on how to make the most strategic use of your time.
Campus Calendar ( Please add the CTM Google Calendar)
We are looking forward to an action-packed, exciting school year. To be sure you are informed of all things CTMS, please add out campus calendar to your Google Calendar. It is called CTM-Campus Calendar and it is a must for every member of the Pack!

Here is a reminder of the August calendar that highlights the two weeks before the start of the 2018-19 school year. Click on the link below.
GCISD FLEX Program - Tracking and Management (Ethics Training due Aug. 17th)
Per the ‘GCISD DMC’ Local Board policy…
“The District shall maintain the FLEX program, through which teachers shall pursue professional learning in order to satisfy training mandated by federal, state, and local agencies. Employment contracts for teachers shall include two paid workdays for professional development under the FLEX program outside the work calendar and outside the regular school day. FLEX will be associated with (but not limited to) compliance issues such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Bloodborne Pathogens, Ethics, Bullying, Professional Development and Appraisal Systems (PDAS), and Diabetes training.”
The FLEX online learning modules will be updated annually and made available to staff members beginning the first week after the last day of school for the subsequent school year’s FLEX hours. The completion of these modules is expected no later than 60 days after the contracted start date. Click here for the FLEX online learning modules.
FLEX online learning is expected to be completed outside the work calendar/school day for classroom teachers and nurses who follow the calendars listed below, and are provided two days of FLEX time compensation:
187 Day Teacher, 187 Day Nurse, 192 Day Collegiate Academy Teacher, 197 Day CTE Teacher, and 208 iUNIV PREP Teacher work calendars.
Paraprofessional and auxiliary employees must complete FLEX requirements during the work day.
All other professional employees must complete FLEX requirements at a time of their choosing.
The monitoring of FLEX hours completion shall be done by the employee’s supervisor during the annual appraisal (reports available in Eduphoria). Reports in Eduphoria can be obtained by using these directions.

Dyslexia Training- August 27 & 29th
As a reminder, we ask that all new staff (and those that haven't attended in the past) attend a dyslexia simulation to learn about characteristics of dyslexia along with building an understanding and empathy of what students with dyslexia may experience on a daily basis.
Two sessions of the dyslexia simulation are being offered during GCISD Learning Institute on August 9th. We are also offering the two sessions below later in August in case the times during the Learning Institute don't work schedule-wise. The two sessions below have links that will take you right into Eduphoria to register.

Please mark your calendars and make prior arrangements to be present at our monthly faculty meetings. Our end of year survey results stated that several of you needed a structured time to meet for grade level meetings. So to honor that request as well as your time, I will shorten four faculty meetings to allow for that meeting opportunity. I'm giving you the dates in advance so that you may make adequate plans.
* Indicates that this a portion of the meeting will be dedicated for grade level meetings. Please remember to bring the necessary data that you would like to discuss during these meetings.
