May 24th 2019
Dear KA Families,
We hope you are well! KA has been working so hard this spring to prepare for the end of Kindergarten. In the coming weeks we will be starting our final growth curriculum share project. This project requires many students to work together and collaborate. We ask that if you are leaving for the summer anytime before the last day of school that you inform us so we can properly prepare roles, and make sure they have everything they need for the summer.
Look for an email coming with an invitation for our final park day.
Have a lovely long weekend.
Warmly,
Deanna & Imani
Important: Queens Farm Museum Next Week
Friday May 31st 2019
Next week we are going to the Queens Farm! As we are eating lunch there, we ask that you pack a brown bag lunch for your child. This means packing lunch in a disposable container (a ziplock bag, a plastic bag, or a brown bag) with your students name and class written on it. Please also provide your student with a disposable water bottle. We plan to throw everything out at the farm after lunch. This means if your child brings lunch in a container or a thermos they will be provided school cold lunch for the trip. Looking forward to our trip!!
Academics
ELA
In Ela we have been wrapping up our final module. Through our reading we learned there are many different reasons people plant and enjoy trees. We learned what an opinion is and what a reason is. We were able to identify an authors opinion on trees--"trees are nice" and her reasons for thinking that. After we learned to write our own opinion with a singular reason. We used the transition word "because" to tell why we think that. We also furthered our reasons by writing another sentence using the transition word "Also".
Phonics
Over the past weeks, we have continued studying the soft C and hard C sounds. We reviewed short vowel sound with digraphs, and sound out words with the beginning, middle, and ending sounds. Students have also been about learning digraphs. We wanted to challenge their understanding of the concept and added the ph sound to our lessons. We used words phone, phonics, and microphone. They were able to recognize the ph sound in the words. As the school year is quickly coming to an end, we will continue to push students and build their fluency when reading and be confident when tackling unfamiliar words.
IB
In IB we've been learning about the growth! Students have been growing their own kidney beans to better understand the life-cycle of a kidney bean. Students are learning about germination and photosynthesis. We finished this week studying the lifecycle of a kidney bean. Next week we will study the lifecycle of a butterfly, a chicken, a frog and a ladybug.
