Joanna Baker takes the top prize at Grady's 12th annual Poetry Out Loud competition.
Congratulations to Joanna Baker, Sah’cyah Black, and Nathaniel Ward, the top performers in this year’s Poetry Out Loud competition. The judges all agreed that we had an especially strong field this year and commented on the overall quality of the performances and the unique selections chosen by the performers.
Nathaniel Ward took 3rd place and a $25 prize for his recitation of Adlestrop by Edward Thomas
Sah'cyah Black took 2nd place and a $50 prize for his recitation of Moon by Kathleen Jamie.
Joanna Baker took 1st place and a $75 prize for her recitation of Planetarium by Adrienne Rich. Joanna will advance to the metro regional competition at the Atlanta History Center on February 24th at 1:00. The top regional performers will advance to the state competition on March 11th.

Celebrate Black History Month - READ!
Atlanta Shakespeare Company & 7Stages visit Grady ELA classes
On February 5th and 6th, 9th grade ELA students had the opportunity to explore scenes from Romeo & Juliet with actors from the Atlanta Shakespeare Company. During January & February, artists from 7Stages will work with students in Ms. Blair's and Ms. Kelley's classes as they read Julia Alvarez's In the Time of the Butterflies and Before We Were Free and create their own original artistic responses to those works.
