Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,
Our students have been working hard on their Link It and STAR testing. This information is valuable for teachers as well as individual students to help everyone maximize their learning. We have also been contacting students who are on probation due to their grades. This two week probation period is an opportunity for students to improve their grades. I have attached a letter reviewing this policy. Thank you for your support.
MLK Day of Service
There is no school this Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There are plenty of service opportunities within PVSD. Please read below to participate.
End of Marking Period 2
The current marking period will end on Tuesday, January 24. Students should check StudentVue and make sure that all of their assignments are completed.
Ice Skating
Don't miss our Ice Skating Party this Friday, January 20th from 7-9PM. This event is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to connect with friends from PV West. More information below.
This past Tuesday, January 10th or 7th Grade students travelled to PV West for the 2023 "Artists in Residence" assembly. This assembly was for the entire 7th Grade student body (East and West) and the 8th grade band students from both schools. Jill Haley, composer, oboist and her guest musicians performed a medley of her musical selections based on our National Parks. She also premiered "Two Owls and The Vine." This piece was written expressly for the Perkiomen Valley School District. The music is based on The Kukhusëwim Legend of the Lenape/Delaware tribe. who were the original inhabitants of this area.
Sincerely,
Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

"Flexible Instructional Days" (FID) in 22-23
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved the use of Flexible Instructional Days (FID) as an alternate form of instruction in response to inclement weather or other emergencies. On a FID day, instruction will be virtual. FID assist schools in meeting the required 180 student days. PA Schools may use up to five (5) FID per school year - in PVSD, we will utilize FID when all 3 inclement weather days built into the district calendar are used.

Message from the School Nurse
How Sick is Too Sick for School?
The student must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications (i.e. Tylenol or Advil), and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school.
For specific identified infectious diseases, students will be excluded from school according to the Office of Public Health guidelines.
Students are not permitted to carry any medications in school. All medication, including over the counter medications, must have a physician order and be brought to the nurse’s office by a parent or guardian.
If your student becomes ill at school they must report to the nurse. Safety dictates that students not go to the bathroom to deal with an illness on their own.
A parent/guardian or emergency contact will be called by the nurse if the nurse determines the student is too ill to remain in school, has a temperature of 100.0 degrees or more, has vomited or has diarrhea.
It is recommended that a parent or designee pick up a sick or ill student within an hour of being notified by the nurse.
Covering coughs/sneezes and proper handwashing will help prevent the spread of illnesses.
Be A Part of the Conversation - Upcoming Programs
Be a Part of the Conversation equips families and communities in Pennsylvania with skills and resources to understand substance use, addiction, and related health issues. We provide community programs, foster supportive connections, highlight lived experiences, and challenge stigma.
We are a collaboration of community leaders, clinicians, students, school district representatives, and families who believe that having meaningful, inclusive conversations about substance use and addiction will support individuals and their families in their efforts to develop healthy coping skills and access support whenever there is a need. Learn more about us. See the link below for a number of programs that Be a Part of the Conversation offers.
National Suicide Prevention Hotline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
