Can't Hide Our Hound Pride!

Howdy Hounds!

We hope our Hounds have had a wonderful Thanksgiving break...full of rest, rejunivation, family, and yummy food! As I reflect on my blessings this Thanksgiving, our school is at the top of my list. I am thankful for our students, amazing staff, and families that come together each day to shape our school into the wonderful place it is...the true heart of the community. On behalf of the staff, I want to extend a sincere thank you for the donation of pies. It was a special treat to take home to our own families.

Now...for some BIG news! After months of construction, our vestibule will be open and ready for us Monday morning! The constructuon looks fantastic and we are looking forward to having the students see the updates. Starting Monday, students will now enter the building through the new vestibule. We will continue to open our doors at 6:45am. We are also able to make some adjustments to morning arrival. We are asking families to continue to utilize Charger Way to access the car rider line. We will no longer be closing off the driveway at 7:30. As a reminder, our goal is to have all students in their classrooms by 7:30am. Students that arrive after 7:30pm will be counted tardy. We will have a couple of staff members remain outside to accept children after 7:30am when the line is still going (remember that most of the staff on the line provide instructional support to students starting at 7:30am). Once the line is cleared, the remaining staff members will come inside. We have a new sign that we will post at that time to ask parents to park and come into the building to check in their student.

Finally, we have a big weekend coming up! We want to wish all of our UIL contestants good luck at the competition on Saturday morning. And, don't forget about our Huggins Holidaze. Be sure to check out the flyer below. The last day for presale wristbands is Monday, November 28th.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Smart Tags - Important!

Dear Lamar CISD Parents,

We are requesting every student bus rider be prepared to show their Smart Tag identification badge when they board and exit transportation starting on Monday, November 28, 2022, the first day we return from the Thanksgiving Break.

The Smart Tag ID badge is a safety tool for students, parents, and drivers. The photo immediately identifies the student, and the vertical or horizontal orientation indicates secondary or elementary grade levels. The badge allows parents to check the exact times when a student boards and exits the bus. Additionally, the Parent Portal gives users the ability to see where the bus is in live time.

The Elementary and Secondary Student Handbooks do require students to have their Smart Tag ID badge when they board and exit the bus (see p. 64 for Elementary; see p. 51 for Secondary). Based on the student’s grade level, there may be consequences for a student who does not show their Smart Tag for 5 consecutive days (5 days for Secondary). We encourage parents to visit our district website for more information on Smart Tags in the student handbook (

For the safety of our students and staff, we want all bus riders to follow this rule and may enforce a “No Tag, No Ride” rule in the future. If your student has not received their ID badge, please contact your campus directly. We appreciate your understanding, and we look forward to working together in making sure all students arrive to school and get home safely every day.

Yours in safety,

Lamar CISD Transportation

Huggins Dress Code

Starting with the 22-23 school year, students at Huggins Elementary will not be required to follow a uniform policy. All students must comply with the LCISD Dress Code, as outlined in the Elementary Student Handbook. We encourage all students to wear purple for Charger Thursday, in support of our Fulshear Chargers. We also encourage students to participate in Huggins Spirit Day on Fridays by wearing Huggins shirts and/or red!
