Teeland Middle School
May 2022
Letter from the Principal
To Our Teeland Families:
Spring is here! We are swiftly moving towards the end of this epic school year! Students have three more weeks before heading into summer.
There are several activities planned as we wrap up the year so, please make sure your student is getting their permission slips turned in to their teachers. The 7th grade will be taking all students on the annual River Ranger field trips the last week of school and the 6th grade is going to climb the butte on the last day of school, May 20th. In order to participate, students will need a signed permission slip.
We are having grade level picnics on the last day of school for each grade: May 19th is the last day for 8th grade students, and May 20th is the last day for our 6th & 7th grade students. Students can bring in their own lunches, or get a brown bag lunch from the cafeteria, for lunch on the last day. After the picnic lunches, students will be engaged in field day activities. We would appreciate any donations of individually wrapped chips or treats for the students to snack on in the afternoon. Donations may be dropped off at the front office.
Our 8th grade Advancement Assembly will be recorded. The link for viewing will be sent out in an email and posted on our Facebook page for parents and family members. We will send home certificates for all students and special recognition medals and pins for those earning academic honors. After the assembly students will participate in an afternoon of fun. May 19th will be the last day of school for all 8th grade students.
TMS is happy to report that we had a record number of students sign up for Track & Field this year! Our team is off to a great start and has a meet this Friday at Wasilla High School. Everyone is welcome to come and cheer on our team! We have several other after school activities happening this month such as Flag Football, our spring concerts, NJHS Induction, and a speech competition all day on Tuesday, May 3rd.
This week is also Teacher Appreciation Week. Our staff is amazing and deserve to be recognized for their dedication and commitment to education. Please let the TMS teachers know you appreciate their hard work. Thank you.
Have a wonderful summer!

National Junior Honor Society News!
NJHS members organized an all-school canned food drive during the month of April. It was a grade-level competition, 6th grade won with 280 cans, a total of almost 500 cans were brought in and donated to the Wasilla Food Pantry. Way to go Teeland.
This year NJHS members chose to have Battle Dawgs be their service organization and raised $2000 to help send soldiers to camp at the Battle Dawg camp headquarters in Talkeetna. NJHS members truly put service to the community to its full potential. So proud of them.
Spring NJHS Induction will be held on May 3rd @ 6:00 pm in the Cafetorium at TMS.
Safety and Security
As summer approaches, please take a moment to ensure kids use life jackets. Each year, so many of our children and adults drown because they are to cool to use a life jacket. Take a moment and put one on. Have a wonderful summer.
Thank you,
Mr. Butler
