Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
It is fantastic to see so many of our TPS parents invested in our school's future and putting themselves forward to join our Board Of Trustees. We are now working through the election process and the new board will take office shortly.
Health and Safety reminders:
The early (2:50pm) pick-up and go option for junior students is an initiative to help reduce congestion and make it safer for students exiting the school in the afternoons. If you are wishing to stay and play after school please come a little later for the 3:00pm pick-up time and leave car park spaces free for parents utilising the pick-up and go option. We will supervise students until 3:10pm at their class if you are running a little late, after that children will be escorted to the office and we will ring home. If you know you are going to be late please phone the office.
Using zebra crossings and respecting locked gates. Parents and whānau are the number one role models for children. If you cross the road without using the crossing then you are signalling to your children that that is okay for them to do. If you sneak children in over a locked gate or squish through a locked gate then you are signalling to them that climbing over or through a locked gate at school is okay to do. We understand that waiting or walking around to Fifth Ave can be a little inconvenient, however, your child's safety is a priority for us and we ask you to support our school procedures and rules.
Anxiety is a common and natural experience for everyone. It is a feeling of unease or worry and is a normal response when faced with something that is perceived as threatening, dangerous, embarrassing or stressful because it prepares us to manage the situation.
Sometimes the anxiety experienced can be greater than that of peers and can interfere with a young person's daily life (how they manage on a day-to-day basis). At TPS we recognise that managing anxiety is becoming increasingly important, this is why we teach Mindfulness as a strategy for children to use in response to a situation that may cause anxiety. TPS is hosting two parent information sessions on Understanding and Managing Children's Anxiety on the 25th of August (at 2:00pm then repeated at 6:00pm) with Jo Orchard, the Registered Psychologist who works with our community of schools, she will be talking about:
Understanding Anxiety
What is anxiety?
Why children get anxious
How children experience anxiety
Managing Anxiety
Three key approaches
Practical things you can do at home

Focus Group:
This term I will be starting the process to review where we are at as a school and work with our new BOT to create our next strategic plan. There will be a survey later in the term for all parents. I thought I would also offer the opportunity to parents to talk with me face to face. The first opportunity is on Wednesday 17th August at 2:15pm in the staffroom. It will be 30 minutes long and give parents plenty of time to be ready for the after school pick-up. It will be a time for you to share what aspects of our school and learning programmes you feel are working well and also suggestions you have for ways we could improve.
Covid updates:
Currently, we have had seven Covid cases at school this term. Only two in week two and no cases so far this week.
We have RAT tests available for our school community. These can be picked up from the school office.
Parents are welcome onsite, we encourage you to touch base with your child's teacher if needed, all we ask is that you wear a mask if you are indoors.
A very warm welcome to our new students and their families; Inayat Kaur, Jay Monaghan and Flynn Lythe. It's great to have you join our TPS team.

We are all in this together

Poseidon's Tale of the Deep Blue Sea
School Production - Years 2-6
We are working with the talented team from Gobsmacked to coordinate and direct our school production.
It is with great delight that we announce the Tauranga Primary School Musical ‘Poseidon’s Tale of the Deep Blue Sea.’ A gripping myth of why the sea is now blue today. When the fishermen find a way to float upon the waters, homes are ravaged, brothers and sisters are lost at sea and a mysterious illness plagues the fish of the coral reef. This is the story of the Fishy Fellowship coming together to save their underwater world and it is coming live, to a stage near you, in a flurry of song, dance and drama!
‘Poseidon’s Tale of the Deep Blue Sea’ will be showing on Wednesday, November 16th and Thursday, November 17 at the Bethlehem Performing Arts Centre. This highly anticipated event will commence at 6:30pm and is one not to be missed.
Tickets will be sold in Term 4.
Sponsorship packages are also available - we will share these options later in the term
On Friday we are auditioning for main roles and the school will start learning the songs in the second half of the term.
Next term we will learn the dances and minor roles will be allocated.

FOTS - DISCO
This term the FOTS will hold Disco on the 22nd of September. We would like to form a group of parents to help with this event. We need parents to help set up and decorate, a team to help with cleaning up after the junior and/or middle/senior events, a team taking tickets at the door and some to run the snack and drink station.
Usually the Junior Disco runs from 5:00pm - 6:00pm, and the middle/senior one from 6:15pm - 7:15pm. If you have not already done so, and can spare some time, please go to the link below and sign up for where and when you can help. Thank you
The running of the Disco will of course be dependant on the COVID situation, we will have to make the final call on this closer to the time.

Kindo / School Shop - Changes to Account Holder Terms
The Growth Collective Limited (known as Kindo, myKindo and ezlunch) has recently been classified as a Financial Services Provider. This means that there are additional responsibilities we must undertake, including compliance with the strict regulations imposed under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act (AML).
We have negotiated exemptions, which are awaiting approval, however there is a change that we need to bring to your attention. We will no longer be able to return unspent funds to you in cash. As such, we recommend you only top up the amount that you will be able to fully spend before finishing school. (Hint: your Kindo balance can stay with your family from year to year and as you move from one ezlunch/Kindo school to another, so you may have lots of time yet!).
Here's a little more detail:
- If you have received a refund from your school or registered charity, e.g. in relation to a cancelled event, you can withdraw that value at any time within 12 months of the refund.
- Otherwise, cash withdrawals will no longer be available, including when you are closing your account.
- Credit balances may be spent, or you have the option of donating to your school or a registered charity.
Should you have more funds than you expect to use on your myKindo balance, you may wish to withdraw these before the terms change. You can do this easily on the 'top up account' page.
What do I need to do?
If you've got plenty of time with kids at ezlunch or Kindo schools - nothing to do. Just carry on as normal. If you're about to move on to a non-ezlunch, non-Kindo school AND you have a credit balance - plan to spend it before you leave or withdraw it before the terms change on 31 July. You can withdraw using the 'top up account' page. Only top up what you need for each transaction and remember to stop any direct credits!
How do I withdraw my balance?
Login to myKindo and go to the “top up account” page. You will see a button there to withdraw your balance. Further information is available here.
