Clifford Came to Book Fair Preview Day

Principal's Pulse

We enjoyed celebrating the 100th Day of School this week with our younger students. They participated in several activities to gain a deeper understanding of exactly what 100 means and how to represent the number. The students were so excited to share their learning.

Our PTA is hosting the Scholastic Book Fair next week in the library. Your child will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during the week. The Book Fair will be opened after hours on Tuesday until 7:00 and also on Friday evening from 6:00 - 7:30. Parents may also attend the book fair during the Brown Bag Lunch with the Principal on Wednesday from 11:45 - 12:45. Please bring your lunch as we discuss the results of the parent survey and shop for new books. Last year, the Book Fair not only provided an opportunity for children to get new books to read but through the proceeds allowed us to get furniture items and additional books for the library. Thank you for your support.

The Father-Daughter Dance is next Friday, February 12th from 7:00 - 9:00. Please make plans to attend. If you are able, I know there are still available spots to volunteer to make this night a magical time for our little girls and their daddies. Contact Dorothy Loftice or the school office if you would like to help.

Please continue to read with your child each night to help them continue the progress they are making to build reading fluency and comprehension. Your support is essential in your child's academic achievement. Check out the image below to see how the number of minutes of reading each night boosts vocabulary and achievement for your child. We thank you for working with us to help your child succeed.

4th Grade Literacy Circles

These students have started Literacy Circles where they are in control of their own reading and learning!! Today they are previewing and discussing which book on the Alamo will best fit their group's reading levels and interest. They also must collaborate and vote on which book their group will work through during this cycle of Literacy Circles. Each team member has a job to do to help facilitate the learning. We are super excited to get our groups learning and reading together!!

Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship is being set up through the Van Alstyne Education Foundation to honor Reagan and Grant Small. All donations are tax free and will help us to continue to honor the memory of these two precious children for years to come. Checks can be made payable to the VAEF with Reagan and Grant's name in the memo line. You may send your monetary donation to:

Van Alstyne Education Foundation
P.O. Box 1620
Van Alstyne, TX 75495

With an endowed scholarship once the requirements are met, the foundation will be able to give a scholarship each year without having to continuously raise the money yearly. Karen and her family will be able to present this scholarship and continue to keep the memory of her children alive for years to come. If you could help with any amount at all, it will be GREATLY appreciated.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sarah Coleman at 903-816-4321 or sm_aggie02@hotmail.com.

Looking for ways to serve our students...

Your VAES PTA is looking to fill officer, committee, and volunteer positions for the 2016-2017 school year. The PTA is a vital organization for our school and our children, and it cannot be a success without volunteers like you. There are many opportunities ranging from positions that require very little time each year to more involved board positions that require time each week. If you are looking for a way to connect with your child’s school, PTA is a great avenue. For more information, please email Jenna Hughes at kjnrh06@yahoo.com.
