Planning for College
Where to start?
Your College Checklist
- Fill out college application
- Application Fee: fee waivers are available for students on free/reduced lunch, lives in a foster home or is homeless, or in the Upward Bound or TRiO Program
- Send high school transcript
- Send test scores (SAT, ACT, TSI)
- Fill out financial aid application (FAFSA/TASFA)
- Log in to college's portal (if applicable)
- Send supporting documents (essays, letter of recommendations, etc.)
- Sign up for New Student Orientation
COVID-19 College Updates
- Check with your school about testing requirements. Many colleges are not requiring SAT or ACT scores as part of their decision making process.
- Check your college's website for any new requirements
- Because many colleges aren't using test scores as part of the admissions process, you'll need a really great application to stand out. Letters of recommendations and essays are a great way to show admissions counselors who you are. Many may even set up interviews, so be prepared for that.

Scholarships
Now's the time to start applying for scholarships!
Tips for scholarships:
- Check the description - make sure that you are eligible for the scholarship
- Check for deadlines - many scholarships give you a couple of months to complete the scholarship
- Don't wait until the last minute! - most scholarships will ask for transcripts, test, scores, and/or letters of recommendations. If you wait until the last minute, you may not have enough time to gather all the necessary documents.
- Watch out for scams! - Remember: you should never have to pay for a scholarship. If you think a scholarship you find may be a scam, doing a quick Google search may be helpful.
Below are some scholarships to start you off with until we release the scholarship bulletins:
