Faith Family
We had our first Faith Family activity of the year! Faith Families consist of about one student from each grade level as well as an adult leader. Each family gets together to pray, get to know each other, and learn about our faith. Our first activity this year was all about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Students made a hanging representation of each fruit and enjoyed fruit snacks while they worked. We look forward to more Faith Family activities throughout the year!
Cultural Arts Fieldtrips
Thank you to PTO and Cultural Arts coordinator Kim Erb for putting together the first cultural arts field trips of the school year. The 1st and 2nd grade classes traveled to Johnson County Community College to watch the live Winnie the Pooh show, and the 3rd - 6th graders attended the Kansas City Symphony at the Kauffman Center. They heard the Young Peoples Concert where they learned about the similarities between authors and composers and how both create story elements like character, setting, and plot in their work. The students listened to some famous compositions and some fan favorites and practiced identifying the story elements in the music.
Flashlight Friday Reading
K-6th grade students enjoyed some flashlight reading today! Flashlight Friday was a hit for the students to enjoy reading with the lights out! Students are finding joy in choosing their own book and reading for fun again this school year. Continue the fun at home by having your child read by flashlight before going to bed!
Miss Pam's Pumpkin Patch
Each year Mrs. Pam McMullin takes her preschoolers to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins. One aspect that makes this so special is that the preschoolers got to go with the eighth grade students! Although the pumpkin patch is actually Miss Pam’s backyard, across Good Shepherd’s backfield, the preschoolers and eighth graders have a blast! Happy Halloween from Good Shepherd Preschool and the eighth grade classes!
