The Buzz
What's happening in our hive.
This week in third-grade...
Reading- Students are practicing the skills needed to learn from the informational texts they are reading. They will now start to teach others what they have learned through summarizing. They will also learn how to synthesize information across texts. These skills will be necessary for the rest of their academic careers.
Writing- We will begin integrating science, reading, and writing as we start our unit on informational writing about planets. Students will learn and apply writing skills that are applicable across academic content areas as they themselves become experts on a planet in our solar system. This is always a very popular unit and we are excited to get started!

The First SJL Parent & Community Workshop is THIS THURSDAY!
We hope to see you there!
Our Freedom Train Field Trip is Next Week!
Experience one of history’s bravest figures in this performance featuring music and dance of the past. Join Harriet Tubman on her heroic journey through the American South, guiding more than 300 slaves to freedom through swamps, up creek beds and over hills in the dark of night.
We are grateful for this opportunity to reflect on the resilience of this great leader and the people she guided to safety. Students will be participating in activities before and after the show to maximize their learning. They will also practice their best theatre-performance-behavior.
We will be leaving school at 11:15 on Tuesday (2/26) morning. Students will eat at an earlier time than normal before boarding the buses. We will return to school immediately after the performance in time for a read aloud and dismissal. Unfortunately, because of the nature of ticket reservations for this show, parents will not be able to attend as chaperones. Please be sure to sign and return your child's permission slip as soon as possible. Students who do not have parent or guardian permission will not be allowed to leave campus.
