We are so proud of you and all of your accomplishments!

Mrs. Brewin's First Grade Class Learned about Plant Conditions
Mrs. Brewin Shared:
"We observed our plant conditions experiment and found that only two out of four conditions allowed the seeds to germinate.
We also learned more about the parts of plants and started an experiment to see what happens when you put celery in water with food coloring.
We started a collage art project in the style of Eric Carle. We painted papers that we're going to use to create a ladybug scene."
Even with masks on you can see how happy these 1st graders are!
!!!YIKES SHARKS!!!!
"For Science, we discovered How Sharks Float and stay buoyant in the water. Sharks do not have swim bladders like most fish, they have an oily liver. The oily liver helps sharks stay afloat because oil is less dense than water. They do, however, have to keep swimming oily liver or not. During our experiment, we observed that sharks sink in water and float in oil. For further understanding, we labeled the parts of a shark. We also discovered that salt absorbs water when we painted our salty rainbow fish.
For art, we made friendly sharks, floating jellyfish, salty rainbow fish, and sandy seashells."

What Our Parents Have to Say
Shabir and Gabrielle Balolia |
Daughter's in Pre-K
We’ve been fortunate to have our girls attend The Franklin Academy for the past 3-years in the preschool program. We briefly tried a preschool that was closer to our home in Bow, but quickly realized we missed the quality, safety, and curriculum of The Franklin Academy. This solidified our decision to have our girls attend all the way through 8th grade!
We appreciate the small class sizes, the caring teachers, and the diversity at The Franklin Academy. Covid-19 created such upheaval for all of us, and having in-person school this past year has given our family some much needed normalcy. We are grateful for the staff and community at this school!
Donald one of our amazing 3rd Grade teachers had his students take flight this week!
Donald shared this:
Compost Challenge with Ms. Bre Harris
In April, 7th and 8th grade students took part in a compost challenge, which involved working in teams to come up with a compost design to be used at TFA. The winning team (ZZ, Paige, Kael and Piper) constructed a vermicomposting bin with proper worm bedding, drainage, and aeration. They also had the opportunity to learn some woodworking skills while constructing a frame with Casey, our Director of Finance and Operations. Chloe, Fiona, and Paige put the final artistic touches on the holder, and now it's in use. The worms have been busily breaking down our compostable food scraps for the past couple of weeks.
In addition to talking about soil health and composting in Science, in Language Arts, 7th graders have been exploring how humans impact the environment. They worked individually to research a different recyclable material (like paper, plastic, or glass) and then taught their classmates what they learned, synthesized the information, and reflected on what they could do differently in what they consume and how they recycle. In 5th grade, students created posters promoting the new compost bin at our school! They were able to solidify the many things they learned in their Science unit, while also learning how to communicate a message effectively.
The Reading Corner - With Mrs. Samuel and Mrs. Snyder
Oops! Last week, in all the excitement about our new Village Books library books, I misreported the number that we bought. The good news is that we bought way more than I reported, and in total we purchased 97 books for the libraries. Thank you! They have been flying off the shelves as soon as we get them processed.
This week was also the last week for checking out books! On June 7th we will start sending out notices to have any missing books returned or replaced. Having all the books back for the summer is essential for us to check on condition, relabel anything that is falling off, run inventory, and other fun library summer things!
Thanks for all of your library support this year! Your used books donations, Village Books purchases, lost book hunting, and encouragement of your readers has been wonderful!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Samuel
