HONORING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Monday, January 17, 2022 is the day we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This day has been called a Day on, not a Day Off. This is a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to think about ways they can celebrate others - in your family and in the community.
Our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assembly will highlight Dr. King's hope for the future and how our students can be the best version of themselves and celebrate others. Students will be encouraged to share ways that they can practice kindness at school and around the community.
As a family, you may want to use these questions as discussion starters:
- MLK discussed his dreams for the future; what are some dreams you have for the future?
- What can you do daily to celebrate others?
- How can you show respect to others and celebrate other people's differences?
We have a real opportunity to build up our Brookdale community. Remembering that everyone should feel valued, respected and treated with kindness.
PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS WITH THESE IMPORTANT DATES
January 12 ~ Early Release - 2:35
January 17 ~ No School for students ~ MLK Day
January 19 ~ Regular dismissal - 4:05
January 26 ~ Regular dismissal - 4:05

THANK YOU!
We had a great first week in our new school. It was exciting to see our Bobcats as they entered the their classrooms on that first day! We continue to work on procedures as we see what works. Thank you for remembering the following;
- Calling when your child is going to be absent. We must ask about symptoms.
- Understanding that picking up your child early means before 3:30.
- Remembering that all drop off and pick up needs to be in the assigned area only.
- We have a wonderful bus system, we would be happy to get you the route information for your child.
- Remembering that the parking lot off of Park is for school staff only.
IT'S SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH!
The Franklin Pierce School Board is second to none! They work hard to guide our district and ensure the best for staff and students alike. We are very fortunate to have such an effective and dedicated school board. Please join us in thanking Mrs. Sherman, Mr. Davis, Mr. Nero, Mr. Mendoza, and Mr. Sablan for all their hard work to make our schools the best they can be.
Upcoming Levy
Franklin Pierce Schools will have two measures on the February 8, 2022 Ballot.
Proposition 1: Educational Programs and Operations is a replacement levy that provides 15% of the FPS Operating Budget.
Funds go toward teachers and paraeducators, counselors, social workers, counselors, social workers, health and safety staff, and arts, music and athletics. Prop 1 replaces an existing levy passed by voters in 2018 at $4.74/ $1,000 with a new levy set at $2.50/$1,000 from 2023-2026. This is not a tax rate increase and will provide vital funding for academic achievement, social emotional learning, health and safety, and expanded opportunities.
Proposition 2: Instructional Technology is a replacement levy that funds technology access for all students.
Funds go toward computing devices for each student, 21st Century classroom technology, remote learning technology and access, cybersecurity infrastructure and IT support staff. Prop 2 replaces an existing levy passed by voters in 2018 at $.41/1,000 with a new levy set at $.41/$1,000 to support continued investment in technology from 2023-2026. This is not a tax rate increase and will provide vital funding for technology access to support student learning.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS
STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. If you call, we must receive it before 3:00 and students should be picked up no later than 3:30 due to our end of the day congestion. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).
SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:00 p.m. After 3:00 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!
UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
