Shark "Shout Outs" (SSO's) - MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People here!
Some of my 8th grade football players were talking about how much they LOVE football...because of their new coach (Coach Jatkola). The best thing they said about him..."He cares about one thing. Kids." The enthusiasm and sincerity they exuded talking about their coach was incredibly sweet.
Ms. Manning
Shout Out to our new front office staff - Ms. Hooper, Ms. Ferro and Ms. Kelly for creating such a welcoming and professional environment for all our students, staff and visitors- first impressions matter!
Mr. Burkhead
Shark shout-out to Mr. Sowpel’s students for cleaning and beautifying the courtyard.
Looks great!!
Mr. Martin
Shout out to Coach Jakola for modeling what it truly means to be a teammate. The students have mentioned how proud they are to be part of a brotherhood like the one you’ve created for the MRHS football team! I was impressed to hear that the entire team supported a teammate after a recent family loss. Great job, Coach!
Ms. Hoff
Students Sarah Gregory and Cameron Thibeau were instrumental student volunteers who helped assemble the Opening Day Packets yesterday! We never could have met deadline without their help - They conducted themselves with the utmost of professionalism, and had an innate sense of how to do what needed doing! They were delightful to chat with, and worked harmoniously together. It was a joy and pleasure to work with these two young people.
Ms. Ferro
Kudos to Monomoy students and staff!
Ms. Weeks with the assistance of Ms. Robinson took care of a lot of business, I.D., immunizations, library card during their visit. Mrs. Poignand took her time to meet with me and ask thoughtful questions.
Thanks to all on behalf of wonderful students and staff!

Check out this amazing letter written by former student Troy Sherman to Ms. Waystack - awesome!
Hi Ms. Waystack
Troy Sherman here, one of your old middle school art students from way back when. I'm now a sophomore at Cornell University, pursuing a dual major in Comparative Literature and Art History. Lynn Stanley from PAAM gave me your email and suggested I reach out to you to let you know about an experience I had this summer, and how it connects back to my middle school art classes of yore.
This summer I had an internship at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and at a meeting of museum members a few weeks ago, I gave a short little speech about my history as a native Cape Codder and my interest in Art both for leisure and as a profession. When I was preparing my blurb, I realized that those two parts (my history as a Cape Codder and my interest in art) are linked pretty strongly; in fact, I waxed nostalgically on the fact that my first visit to a museum (and surely a formative moment in my interest in the study of visual art) was on my 7th grade field trip to PAAM with your class. It was interesting that my experience came full circle in a way, having been initially introduced to art in 7th grade at PAAM, and then beginning my museum career however many years later at the same museum. I just wanted to let you know that, looking back from this point in my life (where art is such an important part of it), your classes in middle school (specifically the PTown trip) have had a huge long term impact on me. So for that, thank you! I hope you have a good year this year.
Best
Troy
Shark Shout Out to Mr. Demanche for jumping in to help with Google Classroom training during professional learning. Even as a student wanting to learn more about it, he got up there and helped Mr. Birchfield explain how it worked by modeling how he used it last year in one of his classes. Mr. Birchfield did a great job and Mr. Demanche added some real world application and made it easy to understand.
Mr. Sowpell
Shark Shout Out to Dr. Blanchard for taking time out of her busy schedule this summer to research and share some data which enabled me to get a head start and better focus my curriculum for next year. She is a great resource and demonstrates how the central office can help us "out in the field."
Mr. Sowpell
Shark Shout out to Ms. Barnes and Ms. Manning for teaching me so much information about ASPEN in 1 hour. That was probably the best ASPEN training I’ve had in a long time.
Thank you, ladies!
Ms. Rigas
Big Thank You to Sophomore Haley Kelley who volunteered hours of time to help Mrs. Doyle and the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition at their “Against the Tide” event in Nickerson State Park on August 15.
Ms. Forte-Doyle
Mr. Steinruck & Custodial Team - I just wanted to write you and your team a note of appreciation for the hard work you’ve done over the summer. I was really impressed with the cleanliness/orderliness of my classroom, the white boards, and the desks when I came in this week. The rest of the school looks very sharp as well. Job well done!
Ms. Hoff
I wanted to express my appreciation for the hard work Mr. Birchfield has done scanning by hand one page at a time French and Spanish texts for us!
Mr. Smeltzer
I would like to give a shout out to Ms. Creedon - our awesome 8th grade teacher who worked tirelessly at our summer car wash fundraiser washing hundreds of cars , supervising students, and directing traffic for 3 1/2 hours. All of her efforts helped us to be successful at the Team Olivia car wash and polar plunge.
Way to go Denise!

MRHS Team Olivia Polar Plunge & Car Wash Fundraiser HUGE Success- We ARE the school with HEART!
Monomoy Regional High School should be very proud of their performance this summer to support a very special new student - Olivia Hart. More than 45 students showed up to wash cars for approximately 3 1/2 hours. Cars were back up onto Oak St starting promptly at 9am and we finished up the last car at 12:30pm. The Polar Plunge started off at 1pm at Red River Beach.
- Mrs. Kathleen Weiner - Olivia's aunt -was kind enough to bring coffee, donuts, and treats as snacks throughout the day.
- Red's Restaurant in Harwich Center donated pizzas for the kids to eat for lunch before heading over to the Polar Plunge.
- Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fox of Harwich Paint and Decorative store in East Harwich donated 3 hoses, car soap, splitters, and numerous sponges so that everyone could be working.
- Mr. Steve McVie Solomon the station manager of CodComm, inc. in Hyannis set up an interview with our students Erin Prescott- Molly Doncaster- Garret Sherman . The kids were on the radio throughout last week advertising our Team Olivia fundraiser.
- Mr. Alan Pollock of the Cape Cod Chronicle did a great job of advertising for us in the paper and has been following the story.
- Ms. Carol Dumas of the Cape Codder gave us some coverage .
- The Harwich Fire and Harwich Police Dept. support us throughout this entire event. Our kids loved washing the fire engine and police cruiser.
- Justin Tavano - a Chatham Fire Fighter helped us to organize and run the Polar Plunge.
We would like to thank all of the teacher's , staff, administrators, and community for their tremendous support.
The car wash raised $5627. and the Polar Plunge raised $604. for a total of $6231.
Thank you Ms. Chilaka for helping organize this unifying event!
