Characterization Vacation: Holling
Main character from The Wednesday Wars
Picture of Holling Hoodhood
This a picture of what I think Holling would look like.
A Shakespeare Book
Holling would bring a Shakespeare book with him on vacation because Holling loved reading Shakespeare. When Holling was talking to a board member from his school district, he was asked, " Do you think you'll enjoy reading the Master's plays?" Holling responded saying that he already does enjoy them. Holling also participated in Shakespeare plays before and enjoyed acting out his favorite plays. That is the reason I think that Holling would bring a Shakespeare book with him on vacation.
Cream Puffs
I think that Holling would also take some cream puffs with him because (like Shakespeare) he loved them. I think that he loved them because of how he described them throughout the book as " brown, light, perfect cream puffs". He doesn't just say that once, but multiple times within a chapter. He also did pretty much anything to get them. Holling did chores at his local bakery just to get some cream puffs for him and his friends. That is the second thing that Holling would take on vacation.
A Pair of Running Shoes
The third thing that Holling would bring with him is a pair of running shoes because running is something that meant a lot to Holling. He started running in the 7th grade and in his first year of running cross country, he "beat out all the 8th graders" from his school making varsity. That lead to him winning a $100 savings bond which ended up helping him in his future.
