October 2020 - How Do You "Boo"?
Happy Halloween!
Almost a month of face to face learning has happened and it seems that everyone is finding their groove again. While many students are happy to be back in the buildings, many are also happy to be learning at home through Livonia Virtual. The fact that we were given options for our children's learning is truly a blessing. Thank you LPS!
Now that most of you have had your 1st and probably 2nd meetings completed, we hope that running your PTA/PTSA virtually is becoming a little easier. Holding meetings in a virtual setting is definitely different and can pose its challenges, but I see units handling it well. It seems meeting attendance is higher for some units as a virtual option is easier on some parents and their schedules. This is a great opportunity to get to know these new faces and get them involved in the PTA. Greeting all your attendees before your meetings start is a simple yet great way to acknowledge people and make them feel welcome. Remember that in a virtual setting you are literally up close and personal with everyone in attendance!
Also, try to keep your families engaged on your social media pages or via email blasts. Membership is crucial this year and your members need to know that your unit is still there for them and for the students. Whether it's school updates, virtual events, or even just a general fun post, let your families know that you are there!
Have a great Halloween,

SOA Deadline Fast Approaching!
Completing the Standards of Affiliation by the December 1st deadline ensures you will receive your Letter of Good Standing and that you will retain your status as a functional PTA/PTSA. If you have any questions or need any help, please contact your council liaison.
Riley PTA Knows How To "Boo"!
Riley PTA has been busy! Like many units we are having to think "outside the box" for events and family engagement. We gifted all our staff with "survival bags" filled with a box of Kleenex, a disposable mask, Kind bar, Post-It notes, a box of pencils and hand sanitizer. Things we felt they could use in their classroom and personally. We have a PTA Membership drive happening on the 5th & 6th and Livonia Virtual classes with the most memberships will win a supply basket from the PTA!
Since we were unable to host our usual Trunk or Treat this year, we still wanted to do something fun for our students. We had a virtual decorated/carved pumpkin contest. Parents sent in pictures that were posted in our Facebook group. The picture with the most likes won an Amazon gift card.
We decided to "Boo" our students! $5 Boo Bags & $10 Spooky Sacks filled with treats and trinkets were available for purchase by families. They could also purchase for other siblings. The PTA board safely delivered these bags to each home, whether you live in or out of district. We sold over 350 bags! We want to give a huge thank you to all our families for their support and for joining us for some Halloween fun!

What's Happening At Churchill!
Check out some of the happenings the past month from the Churchill PTSA!:
* We spruced up the staff entrance tables with table coverings, mum plants and some individually packaged snacks.
* We decorated the main entrance with festive balloons and streamers for Charger Stroll to help welcome our incoming 9th graders and students new to Churchill.
* At the Charger Stroll, we held an earring and keychain fundraiser from the Earring Boutique - a local, mom-owned company.
* We invited the Cookies and Cream Food Truck to visit Churchill on Oct. 2. The first hour was for staff and then the community was invited to enjoy yummy ice cream.
We'd love to hear what your Unit is doing! Please considering sharing in the next newsletter.
