Gladiator News
February 14- February 18 , 2022
Dear Gladiator Families,
Hello Gladiator Nation!!
Hello incoming 6th graders! This is your first newsletter from HGMS. We can't wait to have you here next year. This is a weekly newsletter which contains all sorts of information! You will begin getting it each week starting now! The one question is: when did we reschedule transition camp? We have almost finalized those dates and will get them to you ASAP!
Finally a full 5 day week! It was a busy one from our girls and boys basketball tournaments, to our HGMS Dance's first accomplishment, to great learning in classes! Our Gladiators were busy this week.
Early release will be next Wednesday. We will be administering a STAAR math field test to 7th and 8th graders while 6th graders will have a normal day. It is still important to make sure your student attends each early release. Please make sure to send your student with their charged devices on early release. We had so many students not do so last time we gave an assessment on early release it caused a delay in our day.
Spring pictures were rescheduled to March 7th!
We will have a visit from Rey Feo on March 1st!! We can't wait to have a traditional fiesta event!
We are planning an event event to bring our community together (official name pending). We know how important our community is, and have learned how important it is to bring us back together this year! Stay tuned for a fun, family event scheduled for the end of March!
Please continue to be mindful during morning drop off and afternoon pickup. Please do not make two lines in the front driveway. This completely impedes traffic if we ever need to have an emergency vehicle access the campus. Please do not park in the drop off lanes or pick up on the outside lanes. All of these actions cause our traffic to back up. Please do not pick up on Tall Heights or access our bus loop before or after school. We have a great deal of students walking to get off or get on buses and that causes a serious safety hazard. Please do not drop off or pick up on Kyle Seale. Not only is this a serious safety hazard, it is also unlawful to impede traffic this way. If we are all mindful of these things, we can get everyone to and from school in an efficient manner. We will do our best to monitor all these areas, but we only have one Police Office with many places that need attention.
See district update about masks:
Effective Monday, Feb. 14, NISD is ending the temporary face mask mandate that has been in place since Jan. 20. While face masks will not be mandated, we will continue to strongly encourage their use by all students, staff, and visitors while indoors and on school buses.
The removal of the temporary mandate is based on improving metrics in both the city and county as well as in our schools. Metrics that were specifically monitored include the percentage of positive tests, cases per 100,000 residents, positive cases reported directly to our schools, number of individuals in self-isolation or quarantine, and student and staff attendance rates. All of these metrics have steadily improved over the two weeks.
We will keep in place COVID protocols to include notification of confirmed cases, weekly website reporting, and frequent sanitizing. Likewise, we will continue to host COVID testing and vaccination locations across the district. For more information on testing and vaccination opportunities, visit nisd.net/schools/health/covid.
Thank you for your support of our efforts to keep our schools open for in-person learning. We will continue to monitor metrics closely and continue to make decisions in the best interests of students and staff.
We have another major announcement. WE ARE THE BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL IN NISD according to US World and News Report! We always have known this, but now it's "Facebook official"! You can access the official story here: https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/middle-schools/texas/northside-independent-school-district-113050
We are so proud of our ranking and couldn't have done it, and continue to do it, without the support of our wonderful staff, students and community! Thank you! We can't wait to display our accomplishment proudly!
Fanny Pack Friday's have begun! We have had so much fun presenting this out to our students! Here is the official video link: https://youtu.be/fck37_v8IhU
