Saranac High Counseling Newsletter

April 2019

Scheduling Continues

April is officially here and as we wrap up course selection with our sophomores and juniors, we will begin the course selection process with our current freshman class starting next week. During this meeting, we will explore current interests, assess strengths, and discuss how we can make the most out of their high school years.

District Wide Culture and Climate Survey

We have extended the deadline for our culture and climate survey in hopes of getting more family responses. We will close the survey today at 2:30. If you have not had a chance to take the survey please click on the link below and copy and paste the following high school access code: 5848289703 All results are confidential. We truly appreciate your input!

CV-TEC Open House

CV-Tec is hosting an Open House on Thursday, April 4th from 6:00-7:30pm at their Plattsburgh and Satellite Campuses. The evening will be filled with campus tours, opportunities to speak to instructors, live demonstrations, and cosmetology services. All are welcome!

Importance of High School

In March we spent the day in the 10th grade English classrooms reviewing the importance of high school, understanding transcripts, learning about minimum requirements to colleges etc. This classroom presentation was extremely helpful for students as they reviewed their own transcripts and talked about college/career plans in their individual meetings with Mrs. Rosenbaum and Mrs. Sproule.

Eighth Grade Parent Night

Tuesday, April 9th from 6:30-7:30pm will be our 8th grade parent night. Mrs. Rosenbaum and Mrs. Sproule will be working with Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Remillard to talk with parents and students about the high school experience they are about to embark on.

Seniors should be checking the scholarship board regularly! Included below is a link for the Bruce Crary Scholarship, which is a local scholarship that gives money to Saranac students every year. This scholarship is renewable for 4 years and has an income requirement. If your child qualifies please have he/she fill out the application as soon as possible.

Clinton County Youth Bureau - Youth Leadership Conference

On March 19th, thirteen students went to Clinton Community College for a leadership conference. There they heard guest speakers Joel Hilchey and Tom Bull. The students also attended breakout sessions on the following topics: The College Application Process, Eating Healthy and Staying Fit, Team Building, Moving Ideas Forward, Winning Interviews, etc. After this event the students felt energized about their leadership skills and future goals and plans.

Juniors-SAT and ACT

College bound juniors should be signing up for a spring SAT or ACT. All juniors were given information in their meetings in February about how to sign up and deadlines. Tomorrow, April 5th, is the last day to sign up without a late fee for the May SAT. The June SAT and ACT have sign up deadlines about a month ahead of the test date

College 101 and SUNY North Country Day

Juniors had the opportunity to attend College 101 at Clinton Community College March 20th and SUNY North Country Day at SUNY Plattsburgh April 2nd. Both events allowed students to step foot on a college campus, speak with college staff, review majors and courses of study and start thinking about college options. We encourage families of juniors to visit as many campuses as possible this spring and next fall.
